YOUTH TRIP TO KURE BEACH

A couple of weeks ago, the High School students ventured out to the beloved Kure Beach. This year was quite a special one. Throughout the last year, the biggest hope that was voiced by our students was to have this trip. If you had gone, you would have tried to drink a gallon of water in one sitting and reaped the consequences. You would have gotten very, very wet before ever stepping into the ocean. You would have been flipped over by large salty waves. You would have stayed up until 3am. You would have forged bonds that will last a lifetime, and you would have seen God move in remarkable ways through the life of this extraordinary community. We all have such gratitude for all of the students, parents, volunteers and leaders that come together to allow this trip to become the sacred time that it is!

SUNDAY MASK REMINDER

We know and celebrate the reality that many members of our congregation have been fully vaccinated for months! As you all know, according to the CDC and our local North Carolina regulations, if you are vaccinated, you are no longer required to wear a mask in most public places. We realize that many of you are only being asked to wear a mask at church, so this can be a frustrating change of pace from our current public life. In following our Risk Management guidelines, our church mask mandate remains in place for the foreseeable future, until our children are able to be fully vaccinated. Research is showing that this may not happen until sometime in early 2022, so this will be our reality for the next several months. For the safety of our entire church family, please keep your mask on for the duration of your time in shared spaces within our church building. This includes the sanctuary (for the entire worship service), hallways, and bathrooms. Sunday School classes are able to make their own their own decisions regarding masking in their rooms, but our shared-space mask mandate remains in place. We know you're tired of wearing it, and it's even more miserable in the summer, but we really appreciate your patience as we navigate the safest way to communally gather during the coming days.
CLOTHING MINISTRY VOLUNTEER COMMISSIONING & OPEN HOUSE

This Sunday, August 1, we will be recognizing all Clothing Ministry volunteers during worship, during a special prayer time and commissioning. The church is invited to an open house in the Clothing Ministry, immediately following the worship service (until 12:30pm) to see our newly renovated space!
MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JEAN FINCH

One of the most difficult challenges of the pandemic was watching beloved church members pass away without the usual service of remembrance. As you may have noticed, we are now allowing these services to be held in our sanctuary, as more of our congregation has been vaccinated and some restrictions have been relaxed. On Saturday, July 31, at 11am, we will gather in our sanctuary to celebrate and remember the life of Jean Finch. Jean died on July 6, 2020, and we hope you will make plans to attend this special memorial service to honor her life. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.
CHURCH OFFICE NOW OPEN

As of Monday, July 19, our church office is officially open to the public. As a reminder, our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. We appreciate your patience as we have worked the hybrid schedule over the past 16 months. Please let us know if we can assist you in any way by calling the church office at 919-832-4485.
HECK-JONES OFFERING

In May we returned to in-person church services and now slowly we are adding Sunday School classes. Our congregation has remained faithful in support of our church and its ministries, both for ourselves and for the community. And now it’s time to bring back the Heck-Jones Offering with an emphasis on Habitat for Humanity and RISE Against Hunger. During COVID-19 shutdowns, we realized how important our homes were to us as we “stayed in place” to stay alive and our thoughts turned to efforts to get food when we needed it.
Habitat for Humanity has long been an area of concern and interest for our church. Families build their own homes alongside volunteers, pay an affordable mortgage, and are grateful for our help. We co-built our first house in the 1980s and have continued our involvement with volunteer builders and financial support on many occasions.
Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable. 2.8 million lives were impacted by meals and other aid in 2020 and provided a way for us to do our part to stop world
hunger.

Our goal is $10,000 with the offering to be split as needed. Let’s all join in to feed the hungry of the world and support the common dream of home ownership.
