I heard someone point out that in 2020, America is living in a future history lesson. It got me thinking about what would be the subjects and topics discussed in this future history class? I decided to do a little predicting:
I am sure that a major topic of discussion would be about the Trump Administration.
I am sure a sub-topic of discussion would be if it were a dictatorship or a democracy.
Another sub-topic would be about the term Fake News.
A lot of time would be allocated to figuring out the ideas behind Alternative Facts.
Can you imagine how much time would be spent discussing Trump's racist comments, like referring consistently that COVID-19 as the china virus?
One of the smarter students would ask, "why did Trump promote Hydroxychloroquine so much as a cure, and what was he thinking when he suggested the injection of disinfectant?"
I am certain a student would ask why so many of Trump's cabinet members were sentenced and jailed?
There would be much discussion about Trump's impeachment proceedings!
I am confident the topic of Policing would be an important topic — George Floyd, was it murder or community policing? Breanna Taylor, was it murder or community policing? And, yes, why did America turn a blind eye to all the murders in the streets?
I can imagine a student asking the question, what was the fuss about Colin Kaepernick taking a knee?
Quite a few students would ask, "why were some many Americans against Black Lives Matter?"
A young black student would ask, "how is saying there is no systemic racism making America great again?" Or, with such a brutal history of slavery, why would any black person feel America was great?
The class clown would jokingly ask, "how could any cop choke as Trump suggested happened with Jacob Blake and shoot him in the back seven times?
I can imagine this history class being prevalent!
I hope with all my heart is for the Professor of this History Class to say, "2020 was the pivotal point in America's history. This was the point when America made a shift to become the America of "We the People" truly, treating all people as equals!"
