The Glades Initiative's Food Pantry is available to anyone in need. Residents may come in once per week at any time during the hours listed below. In a “Pantry of Choice”, you choose the foods that you want and need (within guidelines).

Literacy Coalition of PBC Volunteer Opportunity
Help our students attain grade level in reading! Tutor 1st, 2nd or 3rd-grade students in reading comprehension during school hours. Each volunteer will tutor 2 or 3 students, one-on-one for 30 minutes each, during the entire school year. Times to be determined by schools. Type of Work/Skills Needed: At least 18 years of age, training required and provided by the Literacy Coalition

Health Officials Issue Blue-Green Algae Bloom Alert for Lake Okeechobee
The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a Health Alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algal toxins in the Lake Okeechobee LZ40 water body. This is in response to water samples taken on August 3rd, 2022. The public should exercise caution in and around these areas. This is a recreational surface water alert, drinking water is not affected.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify the information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

In Need of Masks? Contact The Glades Initiative, Inc.
If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.
If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.
