Blood Drive with Oklahoma Blood Institute
Friday, July 30, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Dennis R. Neill Equality Center
621 E. 4th St., Pride Street
Tulsa, OK 74120

Oklahomans for Equality is hosting a blood drive with the Oklahoma Blood Institute. This blood drive will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30th at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center.

The FDA has reduced the abstinence period for men who have sex with men. If you have not engaged in sexual activity in 90 days, you are eligible to donate blood. This abstinence period is still not what we want, but we encourage you to donate if you qualify. If you have an O-negative blood type, you're especially encouraged to donate. If you cannot join us on Friday, donate whenever possible!

Schedule an appointment here https://www.yourbloodinstitute.org/donor/auth/signin or call 918-703-4800. Using donor express, you can complete your pre-donation screening on your smartphone or tablet on the day of your appointment. https://obi.org/donor-express/
Congratulations to Muskogee Passing their Anti-Hate Crime Ordinance!
"On July 19th in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Mayor Coleman and the rest have the City Council voted unanimously to pass Muskogee's first hate crime ordinance. We are extremely grateful to them. Today is a giant leap for progress. We would like to personally thank Roy Tucker and Mayor Coleman for drafting this ordinance. I would also like to thank the Muskogee Equality board. Their tireless dedication is but one of the reasons change is on the horizon. I am truly humbled by their greatness, generosity, and kindness. Pride is Power!" - Oklahomans for Equality Muskogee President, Scott Otwell

Karin Susan Cermak
Thursday, August 5, 6:00 p.m.
Dennis R. Neill Equality Center
621 E. 4th St., Pride Street
Tulsa, OK 74120

Karin is originally from Germany, lived in Czechoslovakia, and later in Canada. She is a naturalized American citizen, and the U.S.A. has become her final home. She worked as a mechanical engineer designing plumbing and A/C for 30 years. After moving to the U.S.A. in 1990, she has been pursuing her career as an artist.

Karin has been active for many years in the Muskogee and Tulsa art communities. She is a member and supports Muskogee Art Guild, Tulsa Artists Guild, Tulsa Art Coalition, Oklahoma Visual Art Coalition, and the Tulsa Art Civic Association Alpha Rho Tau, where she has held many Board positions.

Karin also designed and painted banners for many of the annual Azalea Festivals organized by Muskogee Parks and Recreation. Each year Karin supports the Tulsa Art Coalition by donating paintings for the “Miniature Paintings 5" x 5" Show.” She donated her paintings for a fundraising show, “Greater ASSets Art,” organized by the Colon Cancer Coalition for colon cancer awareness.

"I enjoy the freedom of contemporary and abstract painting based on my creativity and independence on the real image of subjects. Both styles allow me to be spontaneous, to play with colors and forms, to use different materials, to express my feelings. The possibilities in abstract painting are endless. If a viewer connects with me through my art as it was created just for him/her, that’s the biggest award.” says Karin. "One of my goals in my artistic activity is to contribute to the cultural life of the community where I live. Art is and always will be part of my life".

The show opens at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center located at 621 E. 4th Street Tulsa OK 74120 on Thursday, August 5th, and the artist reception will start at 6:00 p.m. with Karin Susan Cermak.
The exhibit continues throughout the month.

PRAY AWAY
Streaming on Netflix on August 3rd

In the 1970s, five men struggling with being gay in their Evangelical church started a Bible study to help each other leave the “homosexual lifestyle.” They quickly received over 25,000 letters from people asking for help and formalized as Exodus International, the largest and most controversial conversion therapy organization in the world.

But leaders struggled with a secret: their own “same-sex attractions” never went away. After years as superstars in the religious right, many of these men and women have come out as LGBTQ, disavowing the very movement they helped start. Focusing on the dramatic journeys of former conversion therapy leaders, current members, and a survivor, PRAY AWAY chronicles the “ex-gay” movement’s rise to power, its unscientific influence, and its legacy of profound harm.

Crystal Meth Anonymous is a fellowship of people for whom all drugs, specifically crystal meth, have become a problem. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using. There are no dues or membership lists. The fellowship that is Crystal Meth Anonymous is a new way of life without Crystal Meth. Crystal Meth Anonymous advocates a twelve-step recovery program for spiritual development, no matter our religious beliefs or background. The first step in our recovery is an admission by the addict that he or she is powerless over crystal meth and that life has become unmanageable.

Thursday, July 1, 6:00 p.m.
Dennis R. Neill Equality Center
621 E. 4th St., Pride Street
Tulsa, OK 74120

Tulsa-based artist, Aaron Rayner, has been honing his skills in capturing mood and human connection for the past several years. A classically trained artist and digital marketeer, Aaron has blended his formal education with his fascination with story-telling and personal empowerment (through messaging and art), bringing about a stylized human connection through color and lighting.

Aaron's evolution into various mediums allowed him to introduce a freedom and flexibility to his storytelling, with themes ranging from dance and movement to fantasy and impressionism. Constantly honoring his art professors' mentorships, Aaron's compositions are bold, balanced, and true.
