USF receives $5.2M gift, names school after donors


The USF Muma College of Business received a $5.26 million gift from Baldwin Risk Partners and announced the college has named the risk management school as the Baldwin Risk Partners School of Risk Management and Insurance. The donation is the largest gift received on USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus.

The USF Center for Entrepreneurship and Chessler Holdings partnered to launch the HUSTLE competition. The contest takes experiential learning to the extreme. Enterprising students with an interest in entrepreneurship can apply to run their own kiosk food vender business and earn up to $75,000 in cash prizes. The runner-up prize is $25,000.

Annual scholarship luncheon breaks records 


The 2022 Muma College of Business Scholarship Luncheon made a record-breaking return by awarding over $900,000 in scholarships to about 200 business students from all three campuses. The event is one of the college's signature celebrations that shines the spotlight on the power of philanthropy and student success.

Hospitality major expands to St. Petersburg campus


Students on USF's St. Petersburg campus can now earn a bachelor's degree in hospitality management from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The new offering will create a talent pipeline to fill jobs in the critical tourism industry. Read more.

Faculty Spotlights

Tina Yang, an associate professor of finance, and Steven Miller, an associate professor of finance, co-authored the article titled, "Institutional investors and corporate environmental and financial performance," in European Financial Management.  


Kerry Myers, an associate professor of instruction at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was interviewed by WCPO in Cincinnati for a television news story titled "Murder, money laundering, and Donald Trump: Nine years later, allegations linger at Tri-County Mall."


Kristina Demek, an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, had a co-authored paper “Cybersecurity Breaches and Investors’ Interest in the Firm as an Investment” accepted in the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems.


Paul Spector, a professor who teaches Doctor of Business Administration students, wrote a blog post titled, “What is Quiet Quitting?” 


Michael Wiemer, director of the Fintech Center at the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, was interviewed by FOX-13 for a story on the Tampa Bay region as a financial tech hub and was featured in a profile story by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. 


Tom Stablein, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Information Systems and Management, accepted an offer to join the Tampa Bay Tech Board as a representative for USF.


Seckin Ozkul, director of the Supply Chain Innovation Lab and assistant professor of instruction, is the principal investigator for a $138,000 research project with the Florida Department of Transportation and a $50,000 project collaborating with Texas A&M University.

Alumni Updates

Jordan Ghaemmaghami (‘16, BS, Accounting, MAcc) was accepted into the Tampa Connection Class of 2023. The program focuses on leadership development and community engagement. He is a senior consultant with Hancock Askew Advisors.


Kevin Belteau (‘07, MBA) was appointed as vice president of clinical operations at enVVeno Medical Corporation. His new position follows a 23-year career in clinical operations at Medtronic, where he started as a field engineer after graduating from college.


Susan Podlogar (‘88, MBA, Finance and Management) was appointed to Tevogen Bio’s Board of Directors. She is the chief human resources officer at MetLife. The biotechnology company specializes in developing cell and gene therapies in oncology, neurology, and virology.


Chloe Firebaugh (‘02, BS, Finance) was appointed to the Pinellas County Housing Authority by the Florida governor. Firebaugh is the senior director of land acquisition for M/I Homes of Tampa, LLC. She also serves as a supervisor with the Hillsborough County Community Development District and is a board member of the Urban Land Institute.


Amanda Porupski (‘10, BS, Accounting, MAcc) was named a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. She is a managing director for forensic accounting and litigation support with LCG Advisors.


Tony Morrison (‘11, BS, Business Administration) is the new senior director of communications for GLAAD. He was previously the senior social media producer for Good Morning America. He is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.


Caryn L. Royer (‘08, BS, Business Administration) is now a tech studio coordinator at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Congrats to Beta Alpha Psi's Delta Gamma Chapter at the USF Muma College of Business for winning the KPMG Gold Challenge Competition. The award recognizes the top 5% of chapters in the international accounting honor society.


The competition tasks Beta Alpha Psi students to showcase their multimedia skills by creating a 5-minute video that explains or demonstrates why their chapter deserves the award or why a top student would want to become part of Beta Alpha Psi. Read more.
