Dear Residents –

It is another busy weekend in Orangetown, starting with the Orangetown Highway Department’s Annual Open House from 10 am to 12 pm. Trust me, it is not just for kids, there is plenty to entertain adults too. So, stop over and check it out and be sure to thank the Highway Department employees for the great job that they do.

Then, at 2 pm, the Carl A. Schelin American Legion Post 1271, the Volunteer Fire Association of Tappan, and the Tappan Reformed Church will be having the grand opening of the Field of Honor on the Manse Lawn in Tappan. There will be over 250 flags on display from May 20th until July 8th.

Please note that the Gran Fondo, a long-distance bicycle race, will be using the entire Joseph B. Clarke Rail Trail on Sunday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. So, if possible, try to avoid it during that time period. Some local roads will also be impacted; see below for details.

The Camp Shanks Museum is looking for volunteers to work this summer. The hours are 11:00 am to 3:00 pm most Saturdays and Sundays in June, July and August. You do not need to be a World War II history buff to volunteer and Commander John Gray will be happy to help those who want to learn. You can contact him at (845) 304-6809 or jtgcoach@gmail.com.

Several residents, who are not on social media, have asked me to provide updates on NYC Mayor Adams' plan to house migrants at a hotel in Orangeburg. As of now, there are no updates and the matter will be back in court on May 31, 2023.

I hope that everyone had a nice Mother’s Day last Sunday. I enjoyed spending time with my family and the first barbecue of the season. It was just what the doctor ordered after a busy, stressful week!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

AOH Division 3 Golf Outing

AOH Division 3, located in Pearl River, NY, held their annual golf outing on Friday, May 12, 2023. The weather was perfect and so were the crowds. They maxed out the course and packed O'Grady's Castle and Catering on the Green. The outing was held in memory of one of their members who passed away suddenly last December, Ciaran Green.

Stephen Darby - There's A Cure - Fundraiser

On Friday night, Supervisor Kenny attended a fundraiser for glioblastoma research. The event was held in memory of Pearl River's own, Stephen A. Darby. It was great to see the Pearl River Saloon packed with friends and family of the Darby family.

Hunger's 5K Heroes Run/Walk, Sponsored by Supervisor Teresa M. Kenny

Supervisor Kenny held her third annual Hunger's 5K Heroes Run/Walk this past weekend. The start and finish were at Depot Square in Sparkill. Thanks to all who came out, especially all the children, to support our local food pantries.

Tappan Spring Fling

The Tappan Reformed Church held its Spring Fling on the grounds of the Historic Manse Barn, located in Tappan, NY. There were food trucks, table vendors, children’s activities and D.J. Lou with NY Event Sound to provide the music. The best part is that everyone had a great time.
