BEDS Plus Care Newsletter: Celebrating the Summit Service Center Renovation Launch
Thank you to our supportive partners who believe like we do that investing in safety net infrastructure makes our communities better. Our Summit Service Center Renovation Launch Event, held on Oct. 1, was an opportunity for donors and community partners to view the space and renovation plans.

The Center is a public-private investment in long-term solutions for people who are poor and find themselves homeless in Southwest Suburban Cook County and will open in Summer 2022 as the Linda Sokol Francis Service Center in recognition of her leadership gift. The Center will provide up to 24 months of fixed site, interim housing for medically vulnerable homeless adults, allowing them to live with dignity while they stabilize and qualify for permanent housing.

Supporters including Community Memorial Foundation have helped to make the Summit project possible.

"Community Memorial Foundation’s vision is to create the healthiest region in the country, and one of the ways we can accomplish this is by addressing the social determinants of health," said Community Memorial Foundation CEO Greg DiDomenico. "By partnering with BEDS Plus on their new Summit Service Center, we’re increasing access to homelessness prevention and advancing our shared vision for a healthier and stronger community. We are honored to join our community partners in welcoming this new asset to our region."

Murray and Diana Johnson have lived in La Grange for more than 20 years. When they moved to the area, they joined First Congregational Church of Western Springs and got involved in the community as their family grew. They discovered BEDS Plus and began volunteering, providing meals to shelter clients, working as shelter volunteers, donating food and providing financial support.

"The one thing that we are conscious of is the fact that we are very blessed to have the love and support of family, friends and the financial strength to not have to worry about our next meal or not having a place to sleep at night," the Johnsons said. "COVID was an inconvenience but it didn’t prevent us from staying connected to loved ones."

The Johnsons said what truly makes a community is a special place is the love and support that it shows to those who are less fortunate and those in need.

"We believe in the mission of Beds Plus and appreciate the work of its staff and the many volunteers to provide our neighbors with a safe and caring place to rest when times are difficult," they said. "We hope that you’ll join us in supporting Beds Plus."
