Spring 2023 Newsletter

Greetings,

Spring has sprung!

It is a glorious time of year when the Earth renews itself. Trees bud, blossoms bloom, the grass turns green, and the sun shines down. The Earth is renewing itself, and like the Earth, the energy we use can be produced using renewable sources.

Choosing to power your vehicles and equipment with clean, alternative fuels and technology - like propane, compressed natural gas, or electric - has many benefits. Read on to learn more!

Thank you for all that you do and don't hesitate to reach out if we can help in any way. We love to hear from you and are here to support and promote your efforts!

Welcoming our New Clean Cities Director,

Jon LaBier!

GSCCC is pleased to announce our new Director, Jonathan (Jon) LaBier. Jon is very excited for the opportunity to help advance the adoption and use of alternative fuels throughout New Hampshire.

Jon has significant experience in business management, fleet operations and management, and government. He holds degrees in business technology, criminal justice, and education.

Jon brings a charisma and interest in clean transportation solutions that enables him to serve as a resource to stakeholders and partners. He joins us in our enthusiasm for navigating the road ahead!

Thank you Jessica!

When Jessica Wilcox took the reins of GSCCC in the summer of 2017 she hit the ground running, bringing a background in the automotive industry, skills as an educator, and passion for GSCCC’s mission. Under her leadership GSCCC membership grew substantially as did the number and the quality of GSCCC public events such as Green Your Fleet at the NH Motor Speedway, National Drive Electric Week, the Local Energy Solutions Conference, and many more.

Jessica successfully engaged with a growing number of alternative fuel vehicle and fuel providers, and fleet managers interested in reducing their environmental footprint. She continually sought to partner with other New England Clean Cities Coalitions in our shared mission to grow awareness of motor vehicle emissions and cleaner alternatives throughout the Northeast.

Though she is no longer serving as the GSCCC Director, New Hampshire and NHDES are fortunate to have her step into a new role overseeing all of NHDES’s mobile sources programs where she will continue to be a very positive force in protecting New Hampshire’s environment. Thank you Jessica!

Alt Fuel Discussion Gets Real at NTEA’s Work Truck Week

Todd Mouw with ROUSH CleanTech shared the following article:

In March, NTEA’s Work Truck Week, the industry’s premier commercial work truck event, wrapped up an action-packed few days in Indianapolis with nearly 15,000 visitors.

As a long-time attendee and former board chair for the NTEA, one thing I found refreshing was the shift in conversation about what’s actually needed to make a positive environmental impact both right now and for the long haul.

Electric vehicles anchored nearly every discussion in prior years, with previous conference sessions positioning electric vehicles as the only clean solution. The sentiment in 2022 was that if businesses aren’t solely adopting EV, they’ll quickly fall behind.

This year, my colleagues and I enjoyed broader, more realistic discussions about what alternative fuels actually work in application and are available for fleets today. In fact, there were several conversations about how EVs work in specific markets and duty cycles compared to other alternatives like propane autogas. Electric vehicles were under much tighter scrutiny from attendees as we collectively look at options on the road ahead toward a greener future.

With all the unanswered questions around EV range, infrastructure, price point and availability, fleet managers are looking for viable clean fuel options for the immediate future. Propane vehicles run on a clean, affordable, domestic, scalable and readily available resource helping businesses meet their goals and reduce emissions from day one.

It’s great to see that the industry is looking for many solutions and not all the proverbial eggs are going into the EV basket. The path to near zero emissions involves multiple strategies, partners and solutions that work for fleets of all shapes, sizes and budgets. One size rarely ever fits all.

Here’s to more great conversations and collaboration.
