A note from Bill and Mike

Dear BK Community,

Welcome to Fall and the Pumpkin Spice edition of BK Alive

It was another busy week at BK. Most notably, yesterday we held our first All School Mass of the year in the Carley Center. This was our first All School Mass of the post-pandemic era and as such, in addition to gathering all our students, faculty, and staff; parents and family members were once again able to attend as well. In addition, Fr. Vance encouraged students and staff to prepare for Mass by choosing one thing to thank God for and one need or petition that they would like to pray for during the Mass. Over 600 people filled out their petitions at the beginning of the day on a Google form that was printed off and brought to the altar at Mass.

Special thanks to our fabulous Campus Ministry and Pastoral Arts teams for making this such a special day. And, as the kids say, Fr. Vance’s homily was once again “on point.” Next month on October 20th our All School Mass will honor our grandparents. Last week your students sent postcards inviting their grandparents to attend Mass and a special reception afterward. We know not everyone's grandparents are able to attend. We will be praying for all our grandparents on that day. Parents are also welcome to join us for this much loved Mass.

More and more student activities are coming online as we move into the year. Earlier this week Mrs. Sternling announced the Cast and Crew for the BK fall production of Ghostlight, which will run Thursday, October 27th through Sunday, October 30th. And last night the Hockey Knights faced off against Mountain View in their first game of the year.

This week's BK Alive contains important information for parents and students. Please make sure to see below for details about our exciting Homecoming Week next week!

Peace,

Congratulations to this week's Knights of the Week!

Rodeo completes year round with a competition this weekend in Kuna at Crooked 8 Events located at 1882 E. King Road. Come out and support these incredible athletes.

Ava Manning, Activities

Ava is a junior this year, she competed at State in Cutting.

Wyatt Beckley, Activities

Wyatt is a junior this year, he competed at State in Cutting, as well as Rifle.

Anneliese McCurry, Activities

Anneliese is a junior this year, she competed at State in Barrel Racing and went on to Nationals. She placed eighth in the country.

BK Staff of the Week

Mr. Jared Vreeland

Safe and Caring Place, Academic Excellence

  • Mr. Vreeland is very caring about his students.
  • Mr. Vreeland's lessons are very engaging and fun and he does an insanely good job at teaching and caring about students.
  • Mr. Vreeland always brings a fun energy to his classroom and good ways to engage the class and make everything understandable and interesting.
  • I am nominating Mr. Vreeland because he is always making sure that class is fun and exciting, even when he is out of town. Also, he wants to make sure that we are learning as much as possible in a safe and caring environment, which is something he makes sure is present every single day.

HOMECOMING WEEK AT BK!

Bishop Kelly’s annual Homecoming festivities are nearly upon us! Each fall, we come together to celebrate all that makes Bishop Kelly a great place to be and to let what makes our school special really shine: our community. This year’s Homecoming events run from September 25-October 1. The week is filled with fun activities and games, dress up days, Homecoming Royalty voting and much more. Here is what the we have planned:

  • Hall decorating - Sunday, September 25: All students are welcome to join their class to decorate their hallway for the week. This year, the themes for the halls are “Holidays”: Freshmen have Halloween, Sophomores have New Years Eve, Juniors - Birthday, and Seniors - Christmas. Hall decorating will take place from 9am-12pm.  All are welcome!
  • Dress up days:
  • Monday - PJ day
  • Tuesday - Adam Sandler day
  • Wednesday - Dress like your parents day
  • Thursday - Jersey Day
  • Friday - Spirit Day.

Please note: your child may wear jeans if it is in the theme for the day. If they are not participating, they need to be in dress code. Leggings will not be permitted. All clothing needs to be school appropriate.

  • BuffPuff Volleyball Tournament: the BuffPuff Boys Volleyball Tournament will begin Friday (9/23) and take place every day at lunch in the Reg. Teams of 8 can sign up via link in Schoology.
  • Powderpuff Football - Wednesday, September 28: Watch the freshmen girls take on the Sophomores at 7PM, and the juniors take on the Seniors at 8PM on Nick Ysursa field. Entrance fee of $1.00
  • Homecoming Parade - Thursday, September 29 during Community time(10:30-11:10): This fun event was new to our week last year - it was so much fun we decided to bring it back! Come watch our Fall Sports and current Clubs parade around the school. The Homecoming Court will also be highlighted as will Mr. and Mrs. Pep!
  • Football Game and presentation of Homecoming Court - Friday, September 30th: Come join in on the fun as the football team takes on Burley at 7PM on Nick Ysursa field. At halftime the Royalty Court will be presented and the king and queen will be crowned!
  • Bonfire - Friday, September 30th: Immediate following the football game (but pending air quality) we are pleased to bring back the annual Homecoming Bonfire!
  • Homecoming Dance - Saturday, October 1: The dance will begin at 8:00pm and end at 11:00pm; this will take place on the Lachiando Family Plaza. Water and cookies will be available.

We are looking forward to a great Homecoming Week!
