Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope all of our OLOL moms had a wonderful day last week-end. We can’t thank you enough for sharing your children with us and giving great direction so they can achieve in their academic and spiritual experiences here at OLOL.

OLOL Catholic School is having our 2nd “Bounce into Summer” event this coming Saturday after the 4:30pm Mass. I’m asking that our OLOL families attend the 4:30pm Mass and stay for bounce houses and food trucks. We are in need of students to read at Mass, sing in the choir, and serve at Mass. Click HERE to sign-up. Students, please wear your Lourdes Way T-shirts to Mass.

I have invited all families that are going to be new to OLOL next year to the "Bounce into Summer" as a great way for them to be introduced to OLOL. Fr. Jim and I want our school and parish to work collaboratively and attend Mass. This event is a great way to show this. As we wrap up the 2022-2023 school year, we hope that you all can join us.

Spanish Show-off is tomorrow night. We hope that you can join us for this event.  I know that May schedules are crowded for our students and parents. Both Mrs. Lewis and Señora Eggart take great pride in their curriculum and their teaching. They want you to see the hard work that your children have done this year. We are extremely proud of the work our teachers put into educating your children. The OLOL staff and I appreciate your effort to attend these events.

The annual OLOL Field Day is Wednesday, May 31st. We are looking for parents who would be able to come in the afternoon and be in charge of one of our games. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you could volunteer. The time frame would be Noon to approximately 2:30pm. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Spanish 'Showoff Night' News from Señora Eggart

Hola padres,

I am very excited to share with you that Spanish Show Off Night (SSON) will be returning on May 18th at 6:30 p.m. The last time we were able to have this event was in 2018. For those of you who have never participated in our event, SSON is a night full of laughter and fun.

In the Spanish classes, students have been learning to speak Spanish and also about the culture of different Spanish speaking countries. At the SSON, kids go beyond their comfort level to show off their language and cultural knowledge. Kids write their own skits, recite poems, sing, dance, and act for fun. Students will take you around Latin America in one night.

Attendance at the SSON is mandatory. It is part of your child's final Spanish grade. If your child does not attend, they get a zero unless they are excused by their parents. I appreciate an email letting me know in advance if your child will not be attending.

I will also need some parent volunteers per grade level to make food for that night. In previous years, after the show, we all gathered in the cafeteria and enjoyed great Latin American dishes. An email with further clarification per grade will follow.

Thank you for supporting the Spanish program.

If you have any questions, please e-mail Señora Eggart at leggart@gracesystem.org

News from the School Library

As we approach summer and the Summer Reading Challenge we are going to have a Book Swap amongst the students.

Would your child like some different books to read this summer? Do you have books at home that your child has read and doesn’t want any more?

Each student can bring 1-3 books to the school library during the week of May 15. I’ll record

how many they bring. Please send the books in a bag with your child’s name, grade and number of books.

On Monday, May 22, students can come

to the library to choose books to take home from the books contributed. I’m hoping our Book Swap is a big success and the kids enjoy it.
