Reporting Property Crime
With Labor Day weekend closing in and many looking to get away for a few days, it's an important time to highlight a reminder to continue to be vigilant and keep an eye out for any suspicious activity happening at or near your home. It's a good idea to have a simple camera system installed, so you can keep an eye on your property from other locations. This can also help police investigators if property damage and/or vandalism does occur. If you spot any incidence or aftermath of vandalism, theft or other crime on your property or your neighbor's property, please report it to the Lakeway Police Department by calling (512) 261-2800. You can also submit an anonymous tip at any time by CLICKING HERE.

Additionally, the City of Lakeway Police Department offers a House Watch program where residents who plan to leave their home on vacation or for an extended period of time can request to have an officer conduct a patrol of their residence while they are away. This is a free service. CLICK HERE to learn more about the House Watch program and to connect to the online form.
Holiday Closures & Travel Safety Advice
In observance of Labor Day, City of Lakeway offices will be closed Monday, September 6. For non-emergencies, please contact the Lakeway Police Department at (512) 261-2800. For emergencies, please call 911.

Labor Day is also typically the closing holiday of the summer season. As you venture out, expect an increased law enforcement presence on area roadways. During Labor Day weekend last year, Texas Troopers issued more than 71,000 citations and warnings. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) enforcement efforts also resulted in 402 DWI arrests over the holiday weekend last year. Drivers are urged to follow these important safety tips from Texas DPS during the holiday weekend:

  • DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. Make alternate plans if you are consuming alcohol whether you're driving a land vehicle or boat.
  • BUCKLE UP - it's the law.
  • SLOW DOWN, especially in bad weather, heavy traffic, unfamiliar areas or construction zones.
  • ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS while driving, including the use of mobile devices. Texas law prohibits the use of portable wireless devices to read, write or send an electronic message unless the vehicle is stopped. If you're using a navigation device or app, have a passenger operate it.
  • IF YOU CAN STEER IT, CLEAR IT. If you are involved in a non-injury crash and your vehicle can be moved, clear the traffic lanes to minimize traffic impact.
  • DON'T DRIVE FATIGUED - allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
  • CHECK YOUR VEHICLE to make sure it's properly maintained and always ensure your cargo is secure.
  • REPORT road hazards or anything suspicious to the nearest law enforcement agency.
COVID-19 Update
Today (Friday, September 3, 2021) marks the 18-month anniversary of the first diagnosed case of COVID-19 in Texas. The Baylor Scott and White Health system paused for a 5 minute moment of silence at the noon hour today to reflect on the loss of life and the difficulties caused by the pandemic in Texas. It's also an opportunity to remember and thank our healthcare heroes who have worked conscientiously to treat the many Texans infected with COVID-19. The first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on March 3, 2020. Less than two weeks later, on March 13, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott would declare a statewide disaster as the virus quickly spread across the state. Over the past 18 months, nearly 56,000 Texas residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.

Travis County remains in Stage 5 of the Austin Public Health risk-based guidelines. The guidelines recommend all individuals, whether vaccinated or not vaccinated, wear a proper face covering when engaging with others not from your household. The guidelines also recommend those not vaccinated avoid gatherings and activities unless essential.

Travis County continues to offer multiple COVID-19 vaccine distribution pop-up events throughout the weekend. No appointments are necessary. CLICK HERE for location details, and also for more on the Stage 5 restrictions and county orders in place.

A total of 105,250 positive cases have been reported to date in Travis County. There have been a total of 3,420 cases in the Lakeway area (zip codes 78734, 78738 and 78669) since the start of the pandemic (up 105 cases from the same time last week, compared to a rise of 120 the previous week). There are currently 2,980 active cases at this time in Travis County (up from 2,731 last week) and a seven-day moving average of 604 hospitalizations in the region (down from 640 last week). NEW: Emergency Planning

September is National Emergency Preparedness Month. While the most recent tropical system missed Texas, there are other potential threats Lakeway residents should prepare for such as wildfires, floods, tornadoes, prolonged power outages or another major winter storm. The City's emergency management coordinator held a special preparedness workshop last week, but if you missed it there will be another opportunity later this month through a virtual workshop hosted by the Lake Travis Community Library (LTCL). CLICK HERE to stay connected to LTCL's latest events. If you are looking to make an emergency plan for your family, ready.gov has a variety of resources to help. CLICK HERE to connect to that page.
NEW: Balcones Orchestra

The Balcones Community Orchestra is now in its 21st season of bringing high-quality chamber orchestra music to the area. This all-volunteer group of musicians, under the direction of Dr. Robert Radmer, Orchestra Director with St. Edward's University will make another appearance in Lakeway later this month at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek). Please join the orchestra for this special performance on Sunday, September 26 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. As always, this musical performance is free and open to the public. While face coverings are not required, they continue to be encouraged along with social distancing measures. Still have questions? Please contact the Lakeway Activity Center at (512) 261-1010.
