Carl’s Jr. Celebrates 80th Birthday in Anaheim
On July 17, Carl’s Jr. celebrated at one of its first locations in Anaheim.
In 1941, Carl Karcher purchased a single hot dog cart funded by mortgaging his Plymouth Super Deluxe for $311 and $15 from his savings account.
Business picked up quickly and his single hot dog cart grew into much more. By the 1950s, there were 4 restaurants. By 1966, there were 24. By 1975, there were 100.
Today, restaurants can be found all over the world with 1,000s of locations... and it all started with one man and one hot dog cart.

New State Tax Credits
Signed into Law
On Friday, the Governor signed AB 150, a bill related to the State budget. Among the many provisions of AB 150 are the creation of several tax credits, including the Main Street Hiring Credit and the California Homeless Hiring Tax Credit.
Main Street Hiring Credit
Small businesses (500 or fewer employees) may be eligible for the Main Street Hiring Tax Credit of $1,000 for each net increase in the number of employees that occurred in the 3-month/12-month period ending June 30, 2021. The small business must have had a 20% loss in gross receipts in 2020. The credit is capped at $150,000 per business. Businesses must apply in November 2021 with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration for a credit reservation in order to be eligible to receive the tax credit. Businesses may elect to apply the credit to their income tax for 2021 (and may be carried over up to four years until the credit is exhausted) or to their sales and use taxes for January 1, 2022-April 30, 2027.

California Homeless Hiring Tax Credit
The California Homeless Hiring Tax Credit ranges from $2,500 to $10,000 per homeless employee (the amount is dependent upon the number of hours worked by each homeless employee). Eligible employers may claim up to $30,000 in these tax credits per taxable year, beginning January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2026. Employers must pay homeless employees at least 120% of minimum wage to be eligible for the tax credit. Employers must file a credit reservation request with the Franchise Tax Board within 30 days of hiring the homeless employee to be eligible to receive the tax credit. To obtain the tax credit for each homeless employee, a business must also obtain certification from a homeless service provider confirming that the provider is supplying supportive services to the homeless employee.
