The Associate Alumnae of Douglass College (AADC) proudly honors National Hispanic Heritage Month, which celebrates the contributions made to American society and culture by Americans tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. This national observance was established by presidential proclamation some 54 years ago and for more than two decades has been marked by a month-long recognition.

Today, and during this special time, we remember and honor Hispanic and Latine/x alumnae and friends who are part of our AADC alumnae sisterhood, communities, the nation and the world and we especially take this time to acknowledge your involvement and contributions to our alumnae community, the communities where you live and beyond. We appreciate and value all that you do and what you continue to accomplish.

This year's National Hispanic Heritage Month theme is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation." As we celebrate, we invite you to join us for our Colorism in the Latine/x Community Virtual Panel on Wednesday, September 21 at 6:00 pm ET, via Zoom. This program is part of our ongoing conversations and workshops offered through our AADC Excellence in Inclusion and Equity Initiative. This program will raise awareness and explore the impacts of colorism, whose roots are complex and historically entrenched. Colorism is defined as “prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.”
