NYS Current Status - Current as of 6/15/2021

Effective immediately, state-mandated COVID restrictions are lifted across commercial and social settings. This includes social gathering limits, capacity restrictions, social distancing, health screening, cleaning & disinfecting protocols and contact information for tracing.  The lifting of restrictions also applies to sports and recreation.

If you are not vaccinated and unable to maintain a social distance then a face covering is still recommended. If you are playing and not vaccinated, a face covering is recommended unless it can’t be tolerated.

Champions Conference Fall Cup &
NYSW Festival
We will be hosting a Fall Cup sponsored by the Champions Conference and Fall Festival sponsored by NYSW on October 9-10, 2021 in Rochester, NY. The Fall Cup will be open to 12U & 13U teams and the festival will be open to 10U & 11U teams.

Fall league coaches should complete Risk Management now!
Attention All Fall League Clubs: Your coaches and volunteers should all be submitting their Risk Management applications NOW if they are expired or are new applicants. The current Risk Management registration season will close at Midnight on September 15th in preparation for the new season cut over.

The new 2022-23 Risk Management registration season will re-open on November 1st.

As an additional reminder only legal name and verified DOB should be used in BOTH Sports Engine and RosterPro. That includes Safesport and Concussion Awareness training.

2021 - 2022 Club Tryouts
With the season underway, many clubs are making plans to hold tryouts for next season in the coming months. In order to make it easier for our members to locate tryout details, we will be adding a list on our website with club names and links to their tryout pages.

US Youth Soccer Updates
US YOUTH SOCCER PARTNERS WITH HOSPITAL FOR SPECIAL SURGERY
US Youth Soccer (USYS) is pleased to announce their partnership with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) to provide unmatched and ongoing medical guidance, education and benefits to their members.

Recognized as the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health, HSS will be an important ally of USYS and its 54 member State Associations. Ranked No. 1 for orthopedics 11 years in a row by U.S.News & World Report (2020-2021), HSS will help USYS deliver invaluable health information, resources and services to their members to aid in injury prevention, recovery and access to the latest in medical guidance.

The partnership will be led by an HSS Sports Medicine Council comprised of sports medicine surgeons Dr. Riley Williams, medical director for the New York Red Bulls (MLS) professional soccer team; Drs. Benedict Nwachukwu and Danyal Nawabi, team physicians for the New York Red Bulls, and Patrick Vignona, PT, sports rehabilitation and performance specialist.

U.S. SOCCER FOUNDATION AND U.S. YOUTH SOCCER TEAM UP TO LAUNCH IN-SCHOOL SOCCER PROGRAM
Pilot to launch fall 2021 and engage 12,000 youth in first year

The U.S. Soccer Foundation and U.S. Youth Soccer announced today that beginning this fall, the two organizations will pilot a new in-school soccer program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Led by physical education (PE) and health teachers, the Soccer for Success in School curriculum will teach the fundamentals of the game while also supporting children by increasing their knowledge and skills in order to maintain and improve their physical, social, and emotional health.

During the 2021-2022 school year, four school districts will pilot the program, with the goal of collectively engaging 12,000 youth in the first year. PE and health teachers will receive equipment, tailored training, and professional development before beginning the program.

US Soccer Disability Committee: #ADAPTandTHRIVE Working Group
Composed of professional players with disabilities and leaders within adaptive sports.
  • Kirsten Windbiel (Clemson University, Director of Veterans Camps) and Joslynn Bigelow (Eastside Timbers’ TOPSoccer, Director and Head Coach).
  • The other AaT Working Group members include: Matthew Downing (US ENT intern), Sydney Andrews (US Women's Deaf National Team), Shea Hammond (US Men’s Para 7-a-side National Team), Leah Glaser (CP Soccer), Eddie Perry (US Men’s Deaf National Team), and Nathan Mayer (US Men’s Power Soccer National Team).

Director of High Performance For The Chicago Cubs, Dr. Adam Beard, shares the latest information on high performance for youth sports parents. He gives great insight into so many topics; a few are; tips for maximizing performance, youth athletes and strength, conditioning, sports psychology, recovery, heat vs. cold, and electrolytes and sports drinks.

How You Can Help Your Child During Tryouts
I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, success is when preparation meets opportunity. Well, the prep part of that should be on a regular basis throughout the entire season. If your child is having to change a lot of what they are doing in order to “prepare” for tryouts, then there is a much bigger issue at hand.

Minor Athlete and Parent SafeSport Training
SafeSport is providing virtual trainings on the 2022 Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP), including changes from the 2019 MAAPP. There are eight (8) different trainings scheduled for May and the Center will offer sessions during the summer.
