Warriors on Cataract Update

We are coming up on rafting season and are gearing up. We will be running trips on Cataract Canyon through Canyonlands National Park, Desolation Canyon on the Green River, and the Gates of Lodore.

Our Christmas funding of Saint Nicholas for Ukrainian orphans was quite successful. Our Angel Natalia in Ukraine gathered up Dear Saint Nick letters from nearly 200

orphans, filled their requests, and delivered the presents. Picture of Natalia and her helpers is at left. We want the orphans to know that the World cares about them.

We overshot the funding goal, so Natalia is going out to orphanages to answer their year around operational and other needs. These needs are substantial and ongoing, so we are working on Internet fundraising with Boulder-based https://www.sunflowerseedsukraine.org/. Great outfit, very effective, check them out.

We have a Special Operations launch on May 22 for SEALs, Army Rangers, Air Force Pararescue in Cataract Canyon Canyonlands National Park . We are applying for and feel we will succeed in getting two disabled Ukrainian soldiers on that trip. Comments from the SpecOps troops about having the Ukrainian soldiers on board include “Fantastic!” “Way Cool!” “Outstanding!” “Fabulous!”

We had a Ukrainian amputee soldier and his translator on the SpecOps trip last Summer. Upon returning to home in Ukraine, Igor’s daughter called back over and said her father was “Over the Moon” about his raft trip, and was chatting it up with all of his buddies. Picture of Igor and the SpecOps group is at left. We are wanting to obtain Exit Visas for two female disabled Ukrainian soldiers to go on the All Female trip on the Gates of Lodore. We may enlist Congressional Aid of Congressman Jason Crow in pursuing their Exit Visas.

Bringing Ukrainian soldiers on our raft trips is a show of support and solidarity, as well as forming bonds. On March 17, Warriors on Cataract again had a good showing with six participants at the 35th Annual Bataan Death March staged at White Sands Missile Range NM. This was our second year. Thank you all from all of us for your support.

Recipe: Antelope Skewers

Credit: nevadafoodies.com

Fresh ginger, cilantro, garlic and hoisin sauce really gave these antelope steak skewers an amazing out of this world flavor. Serve as an appetizer or as dinner.

Ingredients

  • Antelope steaks cut into 1/4″ cubes
  • 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 1/4 cup cilantro chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 white onion
  • 2-3 Jalapenos (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, garlic, olive oil, cilantro and ginger.
  2. Cut antelope steaks across grain on a diagonal into 1/4 inch cubes. Place antelope in a 1 gallon resealable plastic bag. Pour hoisin sauce mixture over slices, and mix well. Refrigerate 1 hour or overnight.
  3. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. Discard the marinade and thread antelope steak on skewers with onion and jalapeno slices in between each piece.
  4. Grill skewers 3 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.
  5. Serve with a fresh salad and a side of hoisin sauce for extra dipping! Enjoy!
