GREAT NEWS FROM POP (Promoting Our Positives)

Dr. Scott Sheppard delivered wonderful news of Huntsville ISD’s national recognition from Harvard & Stanford’s National Report Card regarding student learning from 2019-2022. Of 4,000 school districts analyzed in the study, HISD had the highest reading gains in the nation for grades 3-8. Dr. Sheppard acknowledged the contribution of the ATime2Read program in HISD elementary schools. As Dr. Sheppard said, ”so goes schools, so goes the community.”

Dr. Sheppard also shared many details of the progress being made in upgrades to our HISD facilities and indicated that 2024 would see great changes implemented.

There were many new people attending this month’s POP meeting which shows increasing community support for all of the programs supporting our students and teachers in HISD. Of special interest is Lee Baron’s “Fuel the Sole” campaign that provides students $5 discounts for every A and $3 discounts for every B toward the purchase of popular shoes. Many other local businesses are helping with support for students and families with the $25 Christmas gift cards for local stores and/or Amazon for the HISD Social Services Department. Gift cards may be delivered or sent to: HISD Administrative Bldg.
