August 13, 2021
Dear St. Anthony of Padua Families,

What a week! These past two weeks, the teachers and staff have worked diligently to prepare our campus for the return of your Dolphins. Watching teachers prepare for the first day is comparable to prepping for Christmas or a birthday. The teachers want the decorations just right, everyone to feel special, the rooms to be inviting and everything in its place. Once again as we open another unique year amongst global challenges, our students and teachers have stepped up. In just the 2 ½ days we’ve been in session, the kids have done a great job adjusting to procedures, forming new friendships and preparing for a year of huge academic growth. In this year in which our school theme focuses on blessing others, I want to thank you, again, for trusting your “blessings” to us.

Only by His Grace,

Veronica Tucker
Principal

FAQs
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD WILL BE ABSENT?
Please email attendance@staopcs.org and copy your child’s teacher. You may let us know in advance if your child will be absent due to a scheduled appointment. Calls made by students are not acceptable. If a student’s absence is not confirmed by 8:30 am, the school office attempts to contact the parent to verify the student’s whereabouts.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I NEED TO PICK UP MY CHILD EARLY?
You may send in a note with your child or email the front office at attendance@staopcs.org with the time that you wish your child to be released. Your child should stop at the front desk upon arrival at school that day to receive an early release sticker. This important step will help reduce classroom interruptions and help you get to your scheduled appointment on time. The latest early release time in the afternoon is 2:50 p.m.–any later disrupts our regular dismissal procedures.

HOW LONG MAY I WALK MY CHILD TO CLASSROOMS?
Students in 1st through 8th grade should walk on their own to class starting Monday, August 23rd. We understand that the transition for Pre–K & Kindergarten is sometimes harder, so you may walk with your children until September 3rd. If your Pre–K & K student is able, please encourage them to walk to class on their own (or with older siblings) as soon as possible–our teachers and staff will happily assist them on their way.

MAY I BRING IN FORGOTTEN ITEMS? SPECIAL LUNCHES?
An important part of building responsibility in children is allowing them to experience logical and natural consequences. We ask that you do not bring forgotten academic items to school (homework, projects, etc.). If an academic item is brought to a student, the student will have the same consequence as if submitting a late assignment. If a lunch is forgotten, a lunch will be provided and charged to the student. A special lunch may be brought in as a treat for birthdays, but not on a regular basis in place of forgotten lunches.

CAN MY STUDENT WEAR FREE DRESS ON THEIR BIRTHDAY?
YES! Students may wear FREE DRESS on their birthday or a day near their birthday (No Mass Days please). Students with summer birthdays may make arrangements with their teacher to designate a day to use their birthday pass. Birthday Free Dress must follow the guidelines of Free Dress Days in our Family Handbook.
SPIRIT SHIRTS
2021-2022 SPIRIT T-SHIRTS - $20
All orders must be received by today, August 13th in order to receive them the first month of school.
Students may wear Spirit Shirts with jeans on planned Spirit Shirt & Jeans days and other designated day throughout the school year. A portion of our t-shirt sales will go towards supporting various ministries as we focus on BLESSing others as a part of our mission this year. T-shirts are "District Made" brand. Once t-shirts arrive, they will be distributed to the students to bring home.

**Students wearing Spirit Shirts from previous years will be asked to contribute $1 to the sponsored ministry on T-shirt & Jeans Days.
VOLUNTEERING
SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING (VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT)
Our school requires anyone wanting to participate in volunteer activities to complete Safe Environment Training. As a community of faith it is our moral responsibility to safeguard children, the most important gifts God entrusts to us. NOTE: All volunteers/parents must be current with safe environment training in order to participate in volunteer opportunities within our school.

Safe Environment Program - The CMG Safe Haven online training consists of 3 vignette style training videos that is approximately 60 minutes and will include a criminal background check that must be completed. These trainings are available in English and Spanish. Live trainings will no longer be offered, all Safe Environment training will only be available online. For more information about completing Safe Environment Training please visit: https://www.staopcs.org/safe-environment-training

ROOM PARENTS & OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We still need ROOM PARENTS! Here is a brief description of our Room Parent responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom teachers with activities and parental support as needed. Each classroom teacher will determine the use of volunteers in the classroom for various grade-level or classroom activities.
  • Communicate at least monthly with classroom parents regarding upcoming classroom and schoolwide events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Coordinate social opportunities for parents in your grade level.
  • Support the school’s fundraising opportunities.
If you are willing to serve as a Room Parent, please fill out the volunteer form as soon as possible. If you have already indicated room parent interest, there is no need to fill out the form again.
CAR LINE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are still seeking volunteers to assist on a regular basis with morning and afternoon car line.
  • In the mornings, volunteers will help with directing traffic and assisting students safely out of their cars. Volunteers will need to be present from 7:30AM - 8:05AM.
  • In the afternoon, volunteers will assist with lining up cars and directing traffic. Volunteers will need to be present from 2:45PM - 3:30PM.
  • All volunteers must be in compliance and complete Safe Environment Training. More info is available at: https://ap.school/safe-environment-training
If you are able to help once or twice a week, we are extremely grateful! Thank you for being a dedicated volunteer to our school.
