Director's Corner

Happy fall to each of you!

We are thrilled to let you know that the Somers Library Foundation will be hosting their book sale in the library during the weekend of October 22-24. The preview event will open Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm and there will be a small entrance fee to have the opportunity to browse the best selection. The rest of the weekend will not require an entrance fee.

Please note that during the week leading up to and through the sale, things will be moved around the library building and we expect that it will be a bit chaotic. The reading room will be closed to the public, but if you need anything from that area, one of our amazing employees will be happy to retrieve it for you.

We will set up a table and chairs downstairs, so that if you do need a quiet space, you will have a place to go. Thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility.

I want to thank the Foundation for all of it's great work. This sale is an enormous undertaking and we are grateful for the member's efforts. It will allow us to bring our building up to date and create a space that will serve our community well now and in the future!

Be well.

With Kind Regards,

Jennifer Daddio

Somers Library Director

5K Thank You: Many thanks for helping make the Somers Library Foundation’s Ninth Annual 5K Trail Run and 1 Mile Family Fun Run held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 a huge success. The support our library receives from dozens of area businesses, leaders, and families each year is a glimpse of what neighbors can do when they pull together. Staffed entirely by volunteers, it takes dozens of helpers, of all ages, to make this event a success. The teamwork on display is remarkable and the camaraderie is inspiring.

Have we got books!

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Foundation has collected more than 10,000 gently used books of every ilk - ranging from children’s books, young adult, fiction, cookbooks, biographies, travel, art, history, and more. And they are all looking for a new home!

As you can imagine, it will take a lot of volunteers to get these books on display and ready for the Community Book Sale which will be held Friday, 22 Oct - Sunday, 24 Oct.

  • Preview Sale on Friday, 22 Oct, 4 - 8 pm: Pay an entrance fee of $25 to get in before the sale is open to the public. The entry fee is waived for up to 10 employees, family members and friends of any Silver and Gold sponsors of the 5K Trail Run. Contact the Foundation for details.
  • Community Sale on Saturday, 23 Oct, 10 am to 5 pm & Sunday 24 Oct, 11 am to 4 pm: Free admission to the public. Buy the Bag: buy a Foundation reusable cloth bag for $20 and fill it with as many books as you can fit or you can buy books individually as priced.
  • We will be setting up the books in the Library starting on Sunday, 17 October and continue throughout the week during normal library hours leading up to the Preview Sale on Friday afternoon.  Clean up will be on Monday, 25 October so we can return our library to normal.

It will take dozens of helpers to make this a success. Some of you have already volunteered and we will be in touch shortly. If you haven’t already done so, please send the Foundation an email at SomersLibraryFoundation@gmail.com or leave us a message at (914) 361-9979 if you are interested in volunteering to help us in any small way to move, set up, sell, or clean up during the Community Book Sale. We have lots of ways you can be part of this community event.

Watch the Foundation’s website, https://somerslibraryfoundation.org, for additional details on Foundation events and other opportunities to support our library.

We wish you all a safe and peaceful October and we look forward to seeing you at the Book Sale later this month.
