Kursed Again

It’s here—the sequel to our only top-two publication (so far). The first installment of the Kursid Kids saga was number two for juvenile science fiction/fantasy in February of 2023.

In 2022, when Ronan Russell penned his elaborate science fantasy woven with injustice in Kursid Kids: For the Love of Pearl, readers learned what it meant to fall in love with his characters—well, at least most of them. Now, it’s time to rejoin the family as they struggle against the Magnates, who spoiled the land where farmers shared their food, artisans shared their crafts, and storytellers and cyphers shared their knowledge. Kursid Kids: Winter Turns picks up at the climactic cliffhanger of book one and follows the family, the scientist, his robot sidekick, and a few new friends through further amazing adventures. The superpowers bestowed on them by the cat continue to grow. Use the link below to get your copy from our favorite bookseller, Whistlestop Bookshop.

Art in the House

Micah Davis-Culbertson is one of our latest featured artists from the WAM! imprint, and her artwork is prominently featured in the upcoming comic book Losers Weepers. Although her art show started as a scattering of work collected at the Charles Bruce Foundation home, and you may have been fortunate enough to see a proper exhibit of her art at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center on September 13, you still have an opportunity to be part of the magic. With a focus once again on the plight of the unhoused, Phil LaMarche uses his talent for comic prose to expose readers to a world they need to understand. If you're interested in getting in on the ground floor of this project, you can use the link below before Saturday to be part of the Kickstarter and ensure these books get into the hands of school kids. The deadline to back the project and secure some exciting rewards is September 21 at 10:40 p.m. (EDT).

Podcast Roulette

Did you know the Charles Bruce Foundation hosts its very own CBF YouTube page? Thanks to our dear friend Matthew Best, we also have a new YouTube podcast hosted by him, featuring behind-the-scenes stories from the book American Roulette. The first episode features the remarkable author Sherry Knowlton. Next up? Robert Bradshaw.

If you've read the book, the backstories will fascinate you. If you haven’t yet read the novel, take the opportunity now by buying a copy from our good friends at Whistlestop Bookshop. Of course, we take care to keep the podcast spoiler-free, but you might catch hints that could tip off veteran murder mystery fans.

Most importantly, the podcast allows Matthew to continue discussing a subject of dire importance to him: the prevention of gun violence in America. To support this mission, the Charles Bruce Foundation will be making its third donation from the author’s earnings. We’re happy to handle this task for the authors, who have voted to make the next check out to Ceasefire PA.

The Courage of Melissas

How courageous must you be to share personal lessons on navigating homelessness with families? Diane Nilan and Diane Bowman had the opportunity to find out, and they’ve put it all down in this newly-available book. The Three Melissas: The Practical Guide for Surviving Family Homelessness is an important handbook filled with tips from three mothers, all named Melissa, who experienced homelessness with their children. Their advice is based on real experiences and they don’t hold back, sharing wisdom to help parents make difficult times a little easier for themselves and their kids. We’ve included three links for you to get to know these brave women a little better. The first allows you to get a copy of their book. The second gives you the opportunity to watch a brief video and learn more about them. The last takes you to their official website, where you can follow them as they continue their journey of hope and help.
