Dear LMCJ Community,

As we approach the holiday break, we want to take a moment to encourage you and your scholar to enjoy this valuable time together. It’s a wonderful opportunity to relax, recharge, and create lasting memories as a family. We hope you take advantage of this break to celebrate, have fun, and explore new activities that bring you joy.

Amidst the festivities, we encourage scholars to indulge in reading. Whether it’s diving into a favorite book or discovering new stories, reading can spark imagination and strengthen literacy skills, making the break both enjoyable and productive.

We look forward to welcoming all scholars back on December 2nd, refreshed and ready to embark on new learning adventures. Let’s make the most of this holiday break by embracing the joy of reading and spending quality time together. Wishing you a wonderful holiday filled with happiness and cherished moments!

Parent/Scholar Opportunities & Information

Winter Wonderland Dance

We are less than two weeks away from our annual winter dance! On Friday December 6, 2024 from 6-9pm, our scholars are invited to dress to impress and come party! There will be photography, music by our very own Ms. Peterkin (aka DJ Tuturella), treats and more. Tickets are 10.00 and can be purchased by bringing cash to the front office or by using this link and purchasing online.

We are also in search of parents/families to help on dance day! We need families to help with tickets, coat check, chaperoning, setup/takedown and more. If you can help out, please fill out this form!

LMCJ Change Wars -- Deadline Approaching!

The last day for scholars to bring in change for our penny wars or for families to donate online is Monday December 2 when we return from Thanksgiving! On Monday, final tallies will be tabulated and the winning Crew will receive logistics and permission slips for their Y playday on 12/4! To donate towards your scholar's Crew, follow this link, click the orange button and look for your particular Crew!

Operation WARM Dates and Locations

We have noticed scholars coming into school in light jackets or hoodies even as the temperature decreases. We have a couple of brand new coats in our school pantry, and Operation WARM is doing youth coat distributions at Pratt Library locations around the city. Please connect with Ms. Okonkwo if you have a need!

Y Family Centers: Membership Events and Opportunities

If you have a reduced price community school membership or a complimentary OST membership, there are a wealth of programs for your entire family happening on a weekly basis! The calendar for Weinberg can be found below. For more information, call the Weinberg front desk at 410-889-9622.

Do You Have A Y Family Membership?

Because LMCJ is a community school in partnership with the Y in Central Maryland, every family has the opportunity to get a family center membership for a fraction of the usual cost. Please note that the reduced price for Y memberships has increased to 20.00/a month as of September 1 for new members. The rate will change on January 1 for those that already have memberships and they will receive 30 days notice as a reminder. This reduced price membership is valid for as long as your scholar is a student at a Y community school. If you do not already have a membership, email Ms. Okonkwo.
