CDOT installed metering signal systems at 12 ramp locations along I-25 in Colorado Springs, and several were live by the fall of 2020. ASCE Spring 2021 PE Review Course ASCE Southern Colorado Branch invites you to participate in our Spring PE Review Course. The recorded webinars are taught by expert instructors with experience preparing engineers to pass the PE Civil Exam. The course is held through April 1st. All registrants will gain access to recorded material to review at your own pace. The course costs $200 for ASCE members or $300 for non-ASCE members. Once we have at least 15 people registered we will buy the course and send out an email to all registrants. So, pass this email on to anyone you know taking the PE!! Denver ASCE Branch March Meeting with Professor Hussam Mahmoud - Wildfire Modeling in Colorado Communities - March 18th @ 4pm Recent wildfire events, in the US and around the world, have resulted in thousands of homes destroyed and many lives lost, leaving communities and policy makers, once again, with the question as to how to manage wildfire risk. Given the current trend of wildfires and global warming, the risk of wildfires to communities is expected to increase. Accordingly, focus needs to be shifted towards minimizing potential losses to communities by making them resilient. An understanding of the factors that contribute to community vulnerability and risk is essential in developing effective mitigation measures at the community level. In this presentation, a graph-based model to assess wildfire risk for communities is formulated. The results suggest a need for exploring unique fire mitigation measures for communities independently based on individual community characteristics. Learn more about the presentation and sign up early HERE.

El Paso County Road Safety Plan Input Needed El Paso County’s new Road Safety Plan will help position the County to reduce deaths and serious injuries in El Paso County and to make the County a safer place for all whether riding transit, walking, biking, or driving (or riding as a passenger) in a vehicle. This plan utilizes an innovative data-driven approach to improving safety in the County through first analyzing crash data for the region to understand where, why, and how crashes are occurring. This plan will guide El Paso County and partner agencies in improving safety through implementation of recommended countermeasures based on the safety data analysis, road safety audits, and a prioritized list of projects, ensuring the County continues in line with the state in their history of utilizing state and federal roadway safety dollars effectively in fatal crash reduction. El Paso County is requesting your thoughts on road safety issues in El Paso County, and where you have experienced safety concerns. The El Paso County Road Safety Plan Project Team will incorporate this feedback into the plan including, but not limited to, identifying emphasis areas, selecting proven countermeasures, and in developing an implementation list.
