A Message from Grace Lindvall: January 21, 2022
Friends,

We don’t have to look far to spot tragedy and suffering in our lives or in our community. Some have felt suffering settle into their lives and others have been caregivers for friends and loved ones in the midst of suffering. All of us open the newspapers and see suffering splayed across our headlines. It is no secret that suffering exists in our world. The question that we find ourselves asking is what does our faith have to say in the face of suffering?

This Sunday the scripture passage we will read offers a perplexingly beautiful response to suffering in the Christian faith. It says some things that make my eyebrows raise in disbelief and others that make my heart soar in trust. I encourage you to read this short passage ahead of time. If you have the space to do so read it out loud wherever you might be at this moment and let the worlds pour over you with goodness. On Sunday we’ll tackle some of the eyebrow-raising questions like how (or why) am I to boast in suffering? Or why would anything but goodness offer hope?

As we’ve been so enjoying these last few weeks, we will take a bit of insight from Ted Lasso as we continue our sermon series “Gospel Lessons from Ted Lasso.”

Nikki Zimmermann will share her talents as the preacher in our 8:45 am chapel service and I look forward to preaching in the other services.

Consider inviting a friend to join you this week for a message of hope and a bit of heartwarming joy from Coach Lasso.
