RAIN OR SHINE - EBT ACCEPTED - DOG FRIENDLY

Better Late than Never!

Ahh, technology, it's great when it works. In the last 24 hours our online email platform, 'Constant Contact' just was not cooperating. So please accept our apology for this very tardy e-newsletter. Fortunately, there's still time to make your market shopping list. And it might be a long one because we've hit that magical moment when the summer and fall harvests intersect. So this week you'll find sweet corn, tomatoes, and peaches alongside Honeycrisp apples and gorgeous grapes. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, and don't forget that VegFest will be in full swing, just down the block at Riverside Park (from 11am-5pm).

Savoring the Summer

Plum & Cream Cheese Scone Cobbler

From Smitten Kitchen

When it comes to stone fruits, plums probably wouldn't win any popularity contests. Yes, they're delicious and come in an astounding number of varieties. But somehow they always remain in the shadow of the mighty peach. Well, we're gonna made a bold statement here, but when it comes to baking, we ('we' being the EFM management) declare the humble plum superior to the peach! When cooked, plums get sweeter and more vibrant and almost jam-like. And even over ripe plums are great for baking. So give this yummy cobbler recipe a try!

Scholl Orchards

Ready for a taste of Fall? The first Honeycrisp apples of the season arrive tomorrow at Scholl Orchards! And another Scholl favorite makes its debut this week. Enjoy a sweet and juicy pop of flavor with the first Bubble Gum plums!

Salvaterra's Gardens

Tomatoes are still ripening like crazy and we've got plenty to continue our tomato bulk bag sale! Now's the time to freeze them, can them or turn them into sauce and salsa for the winter! My favorite way to preserve tomatoes is to quarter and can them in mason jars. They're perfect for soups, stews and chilis in the wintertime! But if canning is not your thing or time is not on your side, whole frozen tomatoes are the way to go. As they defrost, the skin peels right off and they're ready to cook with right away! Take advantage of this beautiful weather mother nature has gifted us with and stock up on summer's bounty of tomatoes! - Jess

Also available this week: Head lettuce, lettuce mix, arugula, spicy european mesclun mix, kale (red curly, green curly, tuscan), swiss chard, collard greens, scallions, carrots, dill, parsley, cilantro, slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, green zucchini, yellow zucchini, cucumbers, english style cucumbers, red potatoes, yukon gold potatoes, red onions, leeks, yellow onions, basil, celery, eggplant, green bell peppers, jalapenos, poblanos, sweet bell peppers (red, orange, yellow), and sweet Italian horn peppers.

Cabbage Throw Farm

Another week of tomato madness at Cabbage Throw Farm. Crates and crates of tomatoes are rolling in and it’s a great time to try some customer recommended recipes. First, tomato confit! Made with any type of tomato in olive oil and baked in oven. Or how does a cheesy pan-fried tomato stack sound? And of course there’s always the beloved tomato sandwich!

Colorful peppers and Italian and Japanese Eggplant are ripening as well and include varieties such as sweet Carmen peppers, spicy Anaheim’s, bell peppers and serranos. Also available: shishito peppers, tomatillos, escarole, fennel, beets, carrots, Comeback Farm potatoes and more!

Interested in canning the best part of summer?! Bulk boxes of heirlooms and plum tomatoes are available for preorder and market pick up by contacting cabbagethrowfarm@gmail.com.

Phillips Farms

Time for Grapes! Phillips Farms will have different varieties available throughout the season, and all are seedless except for Concords (which ripen in September). Local grapes are something special and unique to farmers markets… you won’t find these sweet gems at the grocery store. This week’s varieties will include Somerset, Himrod and Canadice. Other produce available at Phillips this week: Sugar Cube cantaloupe, regular cantaloupe, seedless watermelon, peaches, nectarines, blackberries, raspberries, new crop apples, Jersey tomatoes, corn, zucchini, green beans, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, carrots, kale, beets, onions, garlic and more.

Holy Cow Farm

"What are those brain coral flowers?" - "Oh those are called cockscomb celosia!"

It's probably Holy Cow's most frequently asked question, and for good reason! They look funny, feel funny, have a funny name, and are just so fun. A member of the widely varied Celosia family, Cockscomb are a long lasting bloom that comes in a bunch of bold colors. They work well in bouquets as a fun texture and pop of color, and there's nothing quite like a small bunch of cockscomb in a vase. 'Tis the season for cockscomb right now at Holy Cow Flowers, they'll be gone in a just a couple more weeks. So be sure to stop by their booth to check out these amazing blooms!
