Student cadets from the Milpitas HS NJROTC produced this video reading of MUSD Board Resolution 2022.8 Honoring First Responders and Recognizing September 11 as Patriot Day A National Day of Service and Remembrance at the September 14 Board of Education meeting.
Calaveras Hills HS students produce Latinx (Hispanic) Heritage Month resolution
To kick off Latinx (Hispanic) Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15, Calaveras Hills High School students produced this video reading of the Board Resolution 2022.7 at the September 14 MUSD Board of Education Meeting.

Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her second Moving Forward Together: MUSD COVID-19 Update 2021-22 at the September 14 Board of Education Meeting. She will continue to provide an update to the Board and community at each meeting.

STUDENT REPORT
MHS students align Objectives & Key Results (OKRs) with district's Strategic Goals
Milpitas High School student leaders Kush Brahmbhatt, Sydney Hoang, Victoria Ly, along with MHS Activities Director Jerell Maneja, shared the Leadership OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) as they align with our District's Strategic Goals in their Board Report at the September 14 meeting.

RECOGNITIONS
Henry Robinson - MUSD/MPD community liaison receives Key to the City of Milpitas
Milpitas Unified School District-Milpitas Police Department community liaison Henry Robinson, a retired MUSD educator, received the Key to the City of Milpitas at the September 14 Board of Education meeting, with Mayor Rich Tran and Councilmember Evelyn Chua joining MUSD Board and Leadership in the Boardroom.

Board President Chris Norwood and Vice Mayor Carmen Montano (who attended via Zoom) are both former students of Robinson at Milpitas. Robinson continues to work with the most vulnerable families in his community liaison role.
Six Milpitas HS students selected as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
A half dozen Milpitas High School students were recently selected as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, and the MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership recognized their achievement at the September 14 meeting.

These six MUSD scholars, Brian Dinh, Aaryaman Jain, Hirva Shah, Ryan Teoh, Chloe Yeap, and Rachel Yen, are among about 16,000 students nationwide in the 67th annual NMSP to earn the designation based on results from the Preliminary SAT exam. In February, these six students will be notified if they have advanced to Finalist standing, which then qualifies them for about 7,500 scholarships worth nearly $30 million.

Vanessa Hu - Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association scholarship winner
Vanessa Hu, a Milpitas HS graduate, was honored by the Board and District leadership for being selected as the recipient of the 2021 Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association scholarship.
Milpitas HS girls volleyball team
Milpitas High School girls volleyball team was honored by the Board and District leadership for being tremendous student-athletes and winning the Spikefest Tournament Championship.

HIGHLIGHTS
MUSD introduces newest team member: Yvonne Sugimura as ELL Coordinator
After the Board unanimously approved the Superintendent's recommendation, Yvonne Sugimura was introduced as MUSD's new Coordinator II of English Learners, Literacy, and Intervention Services.

Sugimura spent more than a decade with Franklin McKinley School District, the last seven years as an elementary school administrator prioritizing closing the achievement gap with the English Learner population by setting up collaboration with grade level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to outline specific goals for each of her students. Her focus will remain on "academic excellence for all students, building culture and community, and collaboration," she shared.

Sugimura will start in her new role with at MUSD next month.
