President Paula Milone-Nuzzo takes a look back at all the accomplishments and milestones that occurred at the IHP during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Reamer L. Bushardt, PharmD, PA-C, DFAAPA, has been named the MGH Institute’s new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs beginning August 1. Dr. Bushardt comes to the IHP from the George Washington University, where he is a tenured professor and senior associate dean in GW’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Celebrating the Legacy of Provost
Alex Johnson

The IHP community pulled out all the stops in celebrating the retirement of Dr. Alex Johnson, the school’s first academic provost and vice president for academic affairs who retired June 30. More than 200 staff and faculty packed the 1 Constitution Wharf conference room on June 2 for hors d'oeuvres, drinks, well-wishes, and to hear testimonials in a video from those who have worked with Dr. Johnson during his 14-year tenure. On June 14, the school dedicated the Alex F. Johnson Academic Conference Room (right) in the Shouse Building, cementing his legacy as the driving force in bringing the Institute to its current position as a vibrant
and growing health professions graduate school whose influence continues to increase within the Mass General Brigham system and throughout the country.
The following other stories and opinions were published during June. In case you missed any of them, you can catch up here:
Assistant Professor of Nursing Dr. Rachel Cox was interviewed for the GHB News story As alcohol home delivery persists, public health officials worry about substance abuse.
Tiffany Hogan, director of the Speech and Language Literacy Lab, tells GBH News how we can close the widening gaps in reading at our elementary schools.
President Milone-Nuzzo tells the American City Business Journals why, in the face of declining enrollment across higher education, this is an opportune time to expand nursing degree programs.
School of Nursing faculty Dr. Kathy Simmonds was interviewed on CBS Boston and her insight was included in a WBUR story about the Supreme Court’s historic abortion ruling that she calls "devastating for the future of reproductive justice.”
Anna Cottrell Named 2022 Staff Employee of the Year

Anna Cottrell, from the Office of Enrollment Services, was named the 2022 Staff Employee of the Year on the last day of the IHP’s annual Employee Appreciation Week. The annual award, now in its 13th year, recognizes significant contributions and teamwork. Cottrell was described as “an incredible asset” to the entire IHP community and that her work creating and maintaining a functioning class schedule over the years - especially during the pandemic – was wonderful. “I’m extremely humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Cottrell. “There are many, many well-deserving people at this Institute. So, to be the person to win the award is very humbling. Thank you to all the people who nominated me. I look forward to working with everybody in the future.”

The other nominees were Luella Benn, Office of Student Affairs and Services; Jen Burke, Human Resources; Carla Donati, School of Nursing; Mary Ellen Ferolito, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; Michael Moody, Office of the Provost; Tina Phan, Occupational Therapy; John Shaw, Office of Strategic Communications; and Callie Watkins Liu, Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

The week included a virtual Shout-Out Wall, where more than 160 messages of gratitude, appreciation and thanks were posted; a Comedy Show & Ice Cream event at the Anchor
in Shipyard Park with local comedians Kelly MacFarland and Kathe Farris; a 5k/10k challenge, and an appreciation picnic at 1CW that included cornhole, miniature golf, Connect 4, a photo booth, cocktails, raffles prizes, hors d'oeuvres, and lunch.
