SEPTEMBER 2022

Cindy's Book Picks

Check out some great books recommended by one of our Youth Services Librarians!

The Good Egg & The Bad Seed by Jory John & Pete Oswald

Is it possible for a "bad seed" to change? Can a "good egg" crack under the pressure of being good? These two adorable and charming picture books balance silliness with a deeper heartwarming message. They can be useful for discussions about behavior but are also super fun to simply read out loud and enjoy. Look for them in our Picture Books section!

Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen by Serena Valentino

Did you like Disney's Cruella movie? If you did, you might like this book! Fairest of All tells the back story of the Wicked Queen from Snow White and why she became such an evil person. You will recognize the original Snow White story, however, there are also differences that make this a new and interesting tale. For example, when the Queen sees a man's face appear in a mirror she received as a gift, she recognizes the face and it torments her in a new and unexpected way! The Queen has a tragic past and remains evil in the end, therefore this is a slightly darker story and is most appropriate for ages 12-18. You can find it in our Young Adult section with two other books in this series: The Beast Within (about the Beast from Beauty & the Beast) and Pour Unfortunate Soul (about the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid).
