LISC grant provides free rides for Care Ring patients
Care Ring's patients will have one less obstacle to accessing care, thanks to a $200,000 grant from the Health Access Fund of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a community development financial institution that supports community development initiatives across the country.
In partnership with Uber, PayPal and Walgreens, LISC created the Health Access Fund to advance health equity by addressing transportation barriers to accessing health care and other essential services. Hundreds of rides have been used so far to attend appointments, go to the grocery store, pick up prescriptions, attend job interviews, and more. Patient Miriam Barahona De Torres (pictured) said "I do not have to be worried any more to go to my medical visits, and I have no words to express my gratitude to Care Ring to find great programs to benefit us. God bless you." LEARN MORE

New investment opportunity introduced to combat the maternal mortality crisis
During an educational event for medical providers and activists to raise awareness of the maternal mortality crisis during Black Maternal Health Week, Care Ring unveiled a new investment opportunity for our donors to make a difference. With the US having the highest rate of maternal mortality among developed nations, the CDC finding that 60% of these deaths are preventable, and Black mothers dying at 2-3 times the rate of their white counterparts, programs with proven results like Nurse-Family Partnership are critical to making a life-saving difference. With an investment of as little as $55 to fund baby and pregnancy essentials, to the highest investment of $9,933 to serve one family for over two years, YOU can help us improve outcomes for women and their babies in Mecklenburg County. YOUR IMPACT ON OUR 4 PROGRAMS:
|
|
Primary care for people with modest resources
We have partnered with SmartStart of Mecklenburg County to offer free physicals to "the workforce behind the workforce" -- daycare providers. Eligible child care providers working in a family child care or center-in-residence
setting may receive a complimentary physical exam from our Low-Cost Clinic. This helps to ensure those who are caring for our most precious gifts are cared for too. If you or someone you know is interested, visit this ELIGIBILITY FORM to find out if you qualify and take steps to schedule an appointment.
|
|
There are no proof of income requirements to access this initial free physical exam. Providers must meet certain SmartStart criteria.

Comprehensive healthcare for those most in need
We were pleasantly surprised to see one of our Physicians Reach Out patients, Mark Henderson, during one of our Tuesday visits to Grier Heights with the mobile unit. Mark had received a text message that the unit was going to be there. Once Mark arrived, he let us know that he was already a patient. He was delighted to be able to conveniently get his blood pressure and A1C checked, and also received an HIV test from the Health Department - all at no charge. While providing the care, the staff learned that he was going to have surgery (thanks to our generous PRO providers) on his shoulder soon and would need a recliner. To support him, Care Ring extended a referral to Crisis Assistance Ministry for this additional service. We are able to be flexible and responsive to our community thanks to our supporters like YOU!

Personalized support for at-risk moms
On February 3rd, we held our biannual Nurse-Family Partnership graduation ceremony. Since our last graduation in August, 51 families have completed the program! 13 of our families were able to attend the ceremony, and as always plenty of cuteness and smiles were on display!
Thank you for making these brighter futures possible with your support, and to our NFP team for their hard work in making this a special celebration for the families; to NFP Community Advisory Board member Becka Tait for attending; to Project Glimmer for the makeup pampering kits for our moms; and snacks were by Maná4U.

Support for new and expecting parents
A Guided Journey is excited to announce that it has become a partner with Diaper Bank of North Carolina! AGJ will be receiving free diapers for our enrolled families every month. We will be given a 'share' (called a PartnerShare) of their inventory each month that will be packed and ready for pick up every third Thursday. Then, our Community Health Workers will distribute them to our families in need. This will provide significant financial relief for our parents and ensure the babies in our program get these important essentials.
