In Memoriam: Theresa Trapilo
|
|
|
|
It is with deep sadness that we say good-bye to our longtime colleague and friend, Theresa Trapilo, who passed away in early September from an illness diagnosed soon after her retirement. Theresa was a beloved colleague who helped the Neurology Department, its clinical research arm and the IDDRC thrive in countless ways. All who knew her knew of her kindness, helpfulness, sense of humor, and devotion. Although no longer with us, Theresa made her mark on our center and in our hearts and we are forever grateful for having known her.

New! Neurology Family Council (NFAC)-Research Subcommittee
The patient/family voice adds another dimension or important perspective into research. We are excited to announce that the IDDRC and NFAC have launched the NFAC Research Subcommittee as a platform for supporting 2-way communication between investigators and families. We will be organizing a “Meet the Researcher” series over the course of the year and hope that many IDDRC investigators will agree to present to this group.

Zeiss LSM980 with Airyscan 2.0
Coming early Winter 2022
Coming in early Winter 2022, this is the ideal platform for your confocal 4D imaging, optimized for simultaneous spectral detection of multiple weak labels up to 900 nm emission with the highest light efficiency. The Airyscan detector enables near-super resolution detail, and through multiplexing, can achieve over 45 fps for capturing fast, dynamic signals. This microscope will also be equipped for multiphoton imaging using our existing MaiTai 2-photon laser.

Brain Vision high-density EEG system with MR scanner compatibility and MagPro X100 magnetic stimulator
Coming early Winter 2022
This cutting-edge system for noninvasive neurophysiological research includes high-density (64-128 channel) electroencephalography (EEG) along with stimulus integration software and hardware. The amplifier can be positioned in the bore of the magnetic resonance (MR) scanner, allowing integrated MR/EEG data acquisition. Additionally, the MagPro X100 magnetic stimulator and coil allows for a wide array of stimulation parameters and rates for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) application.
We will update you as soon as it is ready for investigator use.

Dr. Lipton's research centers on the molecular and cellular interfaces between circadian rhythms and neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
Yet he is able to take time to play the piano and do impersonations. Maybe he will tell you who if you ask him.

Dr. Levin’s research focuses on developing biomarkers for autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders in particular in using electroencephalography (EEG).

Congratulations to Dr. Chris Walsh for receiving The Gruber Neuroscience Prize for his groundbreaking work on how genes and molecular mechanisms regulate the development of the human cerebral cortex. The award, along with a $500,000 prize, will be formally presented to Dr. Walsh in November at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience.
Kudos to Dr. Nicole Ullrich for completing the American Academy of Neurology's "Women Leading in Neurology" leadership program.
Congratulations to the BCH Rett Team! Boston Children’s Hospital is one of 15 institutions across the U.S. that has received the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF)’s Center of Excellence designation. The award recognizes Boston Children’s continued dedication to providing best-in-class clinical care for Rett syndrome, a rare neurological and developmental disorder.
