Apply Now for 2022-23 Financial Aid
Students can apply for financial aid for the 2022-23 school year. In Washington, there are two ways to apply for financial aid:

  • Most people should complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is used by U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens to apply for both state and federal financial aid.
  • The WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) is an application for state financial aid only. The WASFA is for people who are undocumented or who do not qualify for federal aid because of their immigration status, and can be used in limited circumstances by others who cannot or choose not to file a FAFSA.

Applying for financial aid is a crucial first step toward college or job training. This year, a family of four making up to $102,000 can qualify for financial aid in Washington. The only way to know for sure if you’re eligible is to apply. Learn more, get support, and apply for financial aid at wsac.wa.gov/apply

PTSA CONNECTIONS
Meet BHS PTSA Secretary Gena Mason Frank
We're continuing to meet our BHS PTSA team. This week it's our Secretary.
Hello!
I’m Gena Mason Frank, parent of a Senior and a Sophomore at Ballard, as well as a 7th grader at Whitman.

While I’ve been involved with both Whittier and Whitman when my kids were younger, I noticed that as my kids got to High School I felt less connected to the school and to other parents.

I joined the PTSA to be a bigger part of the high school school experience for myself, but also for my kids.
It’s my first year as PTSA Secretary, and I’m excited to be a part of a fun team of parents, but to also get to know administration and staff as well. I look forward to meeting new people and seeing your faces (virtually) at our next PTSA meeting!

Gena's email is bhs.ptsa.sec@gmail.com
Jesse Hagopian talk
Thank you for joining us at "A Conversation with Jesse Hagopian" Oct. 6 via Zoom. Presented by the Lincoln HS PTSA's DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Committee, and co-hosted by the Ballard High School, Roosevelt HS, Hamilton MS, McClure MS and Whitman MS PTSAs.

At his talk, award-winning educator and leader in educational-equity efforts, Jesse Hagopian told the participants that ongoing supports and champions are especially needed for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students in North End Seattle.

“It is urgent we all link arms in our fight against racism,” he said.

Hagopian started his talk with a video of Donovan Livingston’s rousing “Lift Off” 2016 Harvard University Commencement address, where Livingston poetically states, “You keep saying education is the key, but you keep changing the locks …”

To move from ally to antiracist, Hagopian noted we need to “learn, reflect and dialogue.”

“It’s not about competition but finding collective solutions to problems,” he said. “These problems require critical thinking and solidarity.”

Hagopian closed by encouraging support for the Oct. 14 National Day of Action for Black Lives Matter at School. (The website offers self-reflection questions, as well as actions and activities.)
Let's keep building our Ballard PTSA!
Thank you for joining us for our Fall Meeting.

Mr. Wynkoop shared a building update and our special guest, School Nurse Laurie Tirtanadi, RN, MS, ARNP, detailed how COVID-19 contact tracing looks in the BHS building.

For the business portion of the meeting, we shared some of our upcoming initiatives; voted on our 2021-22 Budget and Standing Rules; and heard a brief introduction to the upcoming Feb. 3 Seattle school levies.

Now what can you do to help support our work?

Check out our programs on the PTSA Get Involved page.

We also encourage all members of our Ballard Beaver community -- teachers, parents and students – to become members of the BHS PTSA.

Simply by becoming a member, you'll help supports every student in our school.
