METRONews - Fall 2021
It is that time of year when we all become just a bit more thankful....appreciating our families and our friends for all they add to our lives.

The same holds true for all of our Metron Support Services clients. Each support call, each training session, each and every time you call in for assistance or advice..."thank yous" are exchanged before the support call concludes.

We are thankful all year long and appreciate the opportunity to help and thank you for trusting us.
Metron and Windows 11
Microsoft has slated the release of Windows 11 for October 5th, 2021. At this time, we here at Metron Support Services do not recommend upgrading to Windows 11 on any of your Metron PC(s).

Although Windows 11 looks to be a solid upgrade from Windows 10, there is no reason to rush to upgrade your existing Metron system as there could be compatibility issues between your computer and acquisition hardware. In addition, Windows 10 will continue to be supported by Microsoft until October 2025. There’s very little to gain by updating to Windows 11 at this time and a lot to lose should the upgrade fail.

Windows 11, like every other previous new version of Windows, demands more computer horsepower than the earlier version. What’s different with the Windows 11 upgrade is the system requirements are a bit steeper as Microsoft has decided to support only relatively recent CPUs. Therefore, unlike previous new releases of Windows (7, 8.1, 10), you will need a computer manufactured in the last 3-4 years to run Windows 11. Computers that are only a couple of years old may be good upgrade candidates to Windows 11, but 3+ years old may become unusably slow or unusable altogether after the upgrade.

Most businesses tend to remain with their current Windows version for at least a full year after a new Windows release. However, some may wait two years or more before migrating to the latest version of Windows to allow Microsoft to work out unforeseen bugs and unpredictable issues during the first year of a new Windows operating system release.

Once Windows 11 is released, we will begin testing for compatibility with Metron. Many of our supplier/manufacturer partners are strongly encouraging users to wait even longer, or in some instances to never upgrade since some types of acquisition hardware are not creating Windows 11 compatible drivers to allow the acquisition hardware to work with this version. Meaning even though the Metron software itself will run well under Windows 11, the hardware drivers used to connect your computer to your specific acquisition hardware may not be compatible with Windows 11.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions about Metron and Windows 11. We are always happy to assist.

Honoring our Heroes this Veterans Day
Thursday, November 11, 2021, Veterans Day, is a United States holiday set aside to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Here at Metron Support Services, we honor all veterans and current members of the Armed Forces. We want to thank them all for their service and are proud of those who now work with our team.

What made you decide to join the military?

Joel Riling, United States Navy - 26 years
I always wanted to fly and my father had served in the Navy during WWII.

Dan Holmstadt, United States Army - 8 years
I was 19. I wanted to expand my horizons and see what I was
capable of achieving.

Cory Concannon, United States Army - 6 years and National Guard - 3 years
I always knew I wanted to serve from a young age and knew it was something I had to do.

Clay Hollingshead, United States Marine Corps- 6 years
I joined because I had a strong sense of responsibility to serve my country and make something of my life. I was the first of my family to join the USMC, while all of my other family members who joined were in the Army.

Ashley Tabor, United States Army - 6 years
I always wanted to help people. Also, I saw a group of soldiers in a parade and I remember thinking that's what I wanted to do when I grew up. Then once I got into the Army, I went all in and tried to outdo myself. That's why I went to Airborne school. 150 jumps later and my whole body hurts, but I am really glad I did it.

Ben Klein, United States Army - 4 years and Air National Guard EOD - current
I always had the want to serve. I completed my freshman year of college at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and decided now was the time. But, I wanted to make it worthwhile and do something exciting, so I decided to enlist and start the path to becoming an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician (my mom wasn't happy with the choice).
