Expanding Our Impact and Global Footprint: Collaboration with Sensational Kids for Innovative Program Evaluation

At Developmental FX, we greatly value the power of community as it relates to our philosophy of providing Therapy that Fits locally and around the world. Over the past four years, we have had another incredible opportunity to extend our philosophy across borders, as we partnered with Sensational Kids, a pediatric therapy clinic in Ireland, to support their program evaluation process.

A Partnership to Strengthen Program Evaluation

Our relationship with Sensational Kids goes back many years - they originally hosted Tracy Stackhouse and her colleague, Patricia Wilbarger, for Sensory Defensiveness – A Comprehensive Treatment Approach in 2011. Over the years, Tracy has returned to Ireland 6 different times to provide professional continuing education as a guest instructor for Sensational Kids. Based on this relationship, Sensational Kids reached out to us for collaboration around how to evaluate the effectiveness of their therapy services. Knowing that both of our practices are deeply committed to delivering evidence-based, individualized care to every child, we were excited to work together to support their program evaluation process.

Tracy Stackhouse originally developed a program evaluation process as part of ongoing work with Camp Jabiru in Australia and has infused this process into the work at DFX to monitor therapeutic outcomes. We worked with Dana Katz Murphy at Sensational Kids to adapt this process to their context, allowing them to capture client and therapist perspectives on client outcomes and satisfaction with services. Therapists at the four Sensational Kids sites collected data for 3 years that we analyzed to be able to deliver outcome reports for their board and funding sources.

Presenting at an International Conference

As a testament to the success of this partnership, the results of this program evaluation were accepted as part of a presentation at the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland's annual conference in September. DFX’s program evaluation specialist Hannah Burke and SK's Dana Katz Murphy shared about this collaboration and about the value of using program evaluation to monitor individualized, client-centered outcomes to support the therapeutic process. It was an honor to discuss our collaborative efforts, showing how therapists from different countries can come together to elevate the standard of care for children globally.

Spreading Our Clinic’s Philosophy of Therapy that Fits Worldwide

What excites us most is that this collaboration and presentation gave us an opportunity to share our clinic’s core philosophy. We’ve always believed that every child is unique and that therapy should be tailored to meet each child’s specific strengths, challenges, and goals. Through our work with Sensational Kids, and by presenting at the AOTI conference, we’ve been able to advocate for a model of care that prioritizes individualized services and Therapy that Fits.

Opportunities like this collaboration enable us to share our work and demonstrate the impact of Therapy that Fits so that more pediatric therapy clinics around the world adopt our model of care. This is an important step toward achieving our vision of building a culture of inclusion in which people of all abilities can feel understood, supported, and can thrive.
