“God’s first Word was, ‘Who am I?’ God’s last Word is, ‘I Am God.’
And the Word that I the God-Man will utter soon will be
the sound of My infinite Silence.”

Meher Baba
The Life Circulars of Avatar Meher Baba, by Meher Baba and Adi K. Irani, p.133
Dear Meher Center Family and Friends,

Greetings from Meher Baba’s home in the West. It is just a few days until Silence Day, the time when we commemorate when Baba first began His external silence on July 10, 1925 at Meherabad, India. This silence would continue for all of His physical life.

A great deal has been said and written about His silence and the breaking of His silence, much of it by Baba Himself. Down the ages there will no doubt be much speculation about the purpose and meaning of His silence, and the mystery behind the breaking of His silence.

Regarding this, I wanted to share one of the most clarifying things He said about His silence:

“External silence helps the inner silence and only in internal silence is Baba found, in profound inner silence. I am never silent. I speak eternally. The voice that is heard deep within the soul is my voice.”*

In Baba’s love and service,

Meher Baba at Meher Center
This beautiful silent footage captures moments of Meher Baba’s last visit to the Center—Baba being carried in His lift-chair, hugging happy children, serving lemonade, and as always pouring out His love.

"The Chemistry of Baba's Divine Silence"
In this engaging video, Dr. GSN Moorthy shares his experience of coming to Baba. As a student of Bhagavad Gita and Vedanta, he captures how Baba answered his philosophical questions. Moorthy was fascinated by Baba's silence and avidly studied and wrote about the meaning of spirituality and silence, exploring discourses by figures like Shankaracharya and Mahatma Gandhi. Here, he explains his astute understanding of Baba's unique silence and how a real Master works through silence which is the language of the heart and soul.

"Of Sound and Silence"
Meherjee Karkaria first met Meher Baba in 1923 at Meherabad and went on to become a close disciple who exemplified obedience. He was one of the Eastern men who accompanied Baba to the Meher Center in Myrtle Beach in 1952 and 1956. In this talk given by Meherjee at the Meher Spiritual Center on July 7, 1978, he speaks of the "interesting relationship that Meher Baba has given us between love, silence and sound."
