Because Presbyterians love games!

Pizza and Game night at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin was a wonderful evening of delicious pizza, fun games, and most importantly another opportunity for intergenerational connections with our faith community. And trying to get Oreos into your mouth from your forehead, without using your hands!

New Life for a New Community

Dear Mission Presbytery,

It is with a mixture of emotions that the Administrative Commission for the work of the RGV Evangelist (AC) announces two actions involving the nascent worshiping community of New Life/Nueva Vida Faith Community in McAllen, TX.

First, with deep and profound sadness, we have concluded that the most faithful step forward is to formally end this faith community. The last worship service was held on August 11.

At the same time, with tremendous joy and praise to God, a way has been made clear to ingraft the human, spiritual, and financial resources of New Life/Nueva Vida (NL/NV) into the congregation of First Korean Presbyterian Church, McAllen (FKPC). Rev. Jacob Lee and members of the AC of FKPC, along with members of Jacob’s congregation joined NL/NV for communion at the end of NL/NV’s last service. A new community of faith and promise began as the NL/NV worshippers, the FKPC congregation, and members of both Administrative Commissions offered together a prayer of gratitude and hope. That prayer follows this letter in the three languages in which it was spoken.

Sallie's Ponderings

While it is not the most interesting of topics, how we arrange and pay for property insurance is becoming more difficult. There are more than a few things that a congregation can do to bring down the cost and liability of coverage. Sallie provides a list from our Insurance Board representatives that are important, not only for building insurance, bust safety and prevention.

Lock the doors, check the alarms, and then settle in for this week's Ponderings.

Call for Applications: SERVE Grants for Mission Projects

The Serve Committee is glad to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Mission Presbytery SERVE Grants initiative! This is an incredible opportunity for congregations and partnering organizations to secure funding for mission projects that have the potential to make a lasting impact in our region and beyond.

Because we believe that Christ calls the church to minister to those who are poor, hungry, despairing, oppressed or suffering from injustice, and because we affirm that sharing in mission work with others is an appropriate witness to God’s grace and that the Spirit summons Christians to be involved in mission, not only with financial resources but also with love, mercy, compassion, and justice, these grant monies are aimed at equipping programs or projects worthy of the participation and support of our member congregations and their partners.

Presbyterian Women National Gathering

On August 8th approximately 800 ladies from across the U.S. came together in St. Louis for the Presbyterian Women’s Churchwide Gathering. At least eight ladies from Mission Presbytery attended morning and evening sessions that included keynote speakers, brief Bible Study overviews, praying, singing, liturgical dancing, a skit, energizers (including “The Wave”), and more. It was a fun, special time to relax, learn, make new friends, and feel Christ’s presence throughout it all.

Because Presbyterians love bagging up groceries

Shepherd of The Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin donated bags and bags of essential grocery items to the Gloria and Tony Moreno Basic Needs Center at Manos de Cristo !
