Canada Day at the ROC

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Canada Day festivities at the ROC. It was a fun-filled day with lots of exciting things to do! A special thanks to all our sponsors who helped make this day possible.

Beach Bash

Beach Bash is back! Join us at De La Salle Beach Friday, July 22 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a variety of games, Aquafit classes, a silent auction and lots of summer fun!

 

All proceeds from this event will benefit the Lifesaving Society in support of National Drowning Prevention Week.

Georgina Beaches and Waterfront Parks

Georgina has many beautiful beaches and waterfront parks for you to discover. If you’re planning a visit here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Please leave BBQs and other cooking devices at home as they are not permitted.
  • Place litter where it belongs. Help keep our parks beautiful.
  • Parking lots are available to resident parking pass holders and visitors.
  • Illegal parking will be enforced. Park in designated parking areas.
  • Come early. Our parking lots fill up early, so don’t be disappointed.
  • Pack some patience. Georgina will be busy, and our staff will be working to make sure your visit is enjoyable.

2022 Municipal Election

Are you thinking about becoming a candidate?

The nomination period for candidates is now open and closes on Aug. 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. Information and nomination forms can be found at georgina.ca/Election2022.


Did you know? For the first time, the Town will use online voting, along with tabulators, for the 2022 Municipal Election. Online voting will be available from Oct. 8 to Oct. 23 at noon. The last day to vote is Oct. 24, 2022.

YSpace

The Town of Georgina and the Town of East Gwillimbury are continuing a partnership with York University’s YSpace to deliver a two-year Business Incubator/Accelerator space and entrepreneurship programming. Every Tuesday in the summer, YSpace is offering virtual workshops to entrepreneurs, new start-ups and current business owners. Join for topics such as Setting-Up Business Operations, Marketing and Social Media 101, and Funding and Grants. Sign up for free today!

Georgina Pioneer Village

Georgina Pioneer Village is open to the public. Come visit and take a walk through the past. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. We are excited to welcome everyone back to the village with new offerings, including new exhibits.

Council

The Town of Georgina is holding virtual Council meetings. These meetings will be broadcast as usual through the Town’s live streaming tool.

Upcoming Council Meetings

July 13 – 9 a.m.

July 20 – 7 p.m. Public Planning meeting

Public participation by phone is available. A pre-registration form is required to be submitted to the Clerks Division by noon the day before the meeting. The form can be found at georgina.ca/CouncilMeetings.

Waste and Recycling

Changes to the bag tag program

Residents can now place up to two bags or containers/items out for pickup every other week on their regularly scheduled collection days. Any additional waste will require a bag tag. Residents can put up to a maximum of five bags/items of garbage out, two free and three paid. Tags are now $2 each and are being sold in groups of five for $10. Previously purchased bag tags remain valid and can be used. The Town now has a $12 fee for large items such as furniture, mattresses, box springs, toilets, appliances and carpeting.

Curbside giveaway days

Clear out the clutter in your home. The next Curbside Giveaway Day is July 30. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other residents/neighbours can then take these items free of charge. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m. and can only be put to the curb on that date.

Registration for Georgina Public Library’s Summer Reading Club is open. There are challenges for youth, teen and adult readers. Plus, prize draws throughout the summer. Join the Georgina Public Library for its launch party on June 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Keswick location.
