Meet our new student assistant!

Melanie Estrella

Melanie (Pascua Yaqui) is the student assistant for the UC San Diego Intertribal Resource Center. Melanie is currently a third-year Undergraduate student at UC San Diego, with a double major in Sociology-Science and Medicine and Global Health, as well as a minor in Native American/Indigenous Studies. Prior to joining the ITRC staff, she volunteered consistently for the Intertribal Resource Center, doing outreach to local tribes and helping with on-campus tours. In addition, she served as the Student Affirmative Actions Committee NAISA (Native American Indigenous Student Alliance) Representative for UCSD’s Associated Students. Melanie is a current NAISA Board Member. After she obtains her undergraduate degree, she plans to go to graduate school and hopes to work for an Indian Health Clinic or somewhere specializing in Native healthcare.
