Congratulations, Mrs. Lloyd
Educator of the Year

Congratulations to Lauren Lloyd for her recent nomination and selection for Hallsville Educator of the Year. Each year, the Hallsville Chamber of Commerce selects an educator to honor for their hard work and dedication to the Hallsville School District.

Sophomore Jay McCain nominated Mrs. Lloyd for this honor. She writes,

“Mrs. Lloyd quickly made a large impact in my life, and it hasn’t even been a whole semester! She is an amazing woman who I can look up to in more ways than one. She is kind, funny, and the best teacher I could ask for. Mrs. Lloyd is always there to make me laugh, even on her harder days. She makes my classroom experience 1000 times better. I hope this award shows her just how amazing she really is!”

Mrs. Lloyd teaches English II at Hallsville High School and has been a part of the district for 12 years. In addition, she is the Assistant Coach for the HHS Varsity Girls Basketball team.
Future Teachers of America
Grow Your Own

As part of the district's initiative to recruit and retain quality staff, the district was approved for a Grow Your Own grant that helps support partnerships with local universities and education programs, engagement in recruitment and selection of individuals interested in the teaching profession, and providing learning opportunities to support students interested in the teaching profession.

This year, Mrs. Kanvice Thompson is teaching a high school class focused on providing opportunities for students interested in the teaching profession to learn more about curriculum development, classroom management, and the importance of building relationships.  Mrs. Thompson is also the sponsor of a new extracurricular club, Future Teachers of America (FTA). The club is open to high school students interested in educational careers and provides opportunities for students to visit college education programs, attend teaching conferences, and teach hands-on lessons across the district to our students.
FTA recently had the opportunity to attend a college fair and the Future Teachers of America State Meeting hosted by the Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) in Columbia. Students heard from 2017 Missouri Teacher of the Year, Darbie Valenti Huff, present on “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in Education.” The conference reinforced the idea that great educators can make a difference in the lives of students, and it is a rewarding profession.

Spirit Wear Fundraiser

Hallsville Intermediate School and Hallsville Primary School are hosting a Hallsville spirit wear fundraiser! All proceeds will benefit students and staff at both schools. The online store is open from Friday, November 18, through Tuesday, December 6. Items for primary and intermediate students will be delivered to the school the week of December 19 and sent home with students.

Please put your child’s name, grade, and teacher in the comments when checking out online.

Families also have the option to pick up items at Shirtworxs Inc. in town! During checkout, use the “Ship My Order” button, and you will have the option to pick up. All items use the Hallsville logos and are not building-specific. We encourage our students to wear purple and gold on Fridays, and this is a great opportunity to stock up on some spirit wear! Thank you, Shirtworx Ink for this fundraising opportunity!

Bond Construction Updates
#BuildingOurTribe

On November 3, the Board held a work session to provide input on the stadium complex design concept and provide direction to the architecture and engineering firm Klingner and Associates on specific alternative designs to complete in preparation for project bidding in 2023. At the regular session meeting, Klinger & Associates presented updated stadium site plans. The Board approved the plans as presented. The final design plans will assist SM Wilson with preparing updated cost estimates and project bidding documents.

November Highlights

Below are highlights of items discussed during the open session on Wednesday, November 16.You can \view the full highlights here.  The full agenda is also available on the district website.

The next regular session meeting is Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the primary cafeteria.

RECOGNITIONS
Sherri Briedwell and Chelsea Otten were recognized for organizing the Veterans Day Program and breakfast. Mrs. Briedwell helped organize the breakfast and invited local Veterans.  Mrs. Otten helped showcase our youngest learners with performances by our primary students.  We appreciate both of them for their work in putting together a wonderful event honoring our Veterans.

Rachel Sides was recognized for her role and work as the high school’s post-secondary advisor.  Her role is new this year, made possible through a grant through the rootEd Alliance.  She has taken ownership of this new role and makes a positive impact on our high school students every day.

CAPITAL LEASE-PURCHASE OPTIONS
Stifel representatives presented the Board with lease-purchase options to fund capital improvements on campus. Stifel, Mr. Hoffman, and Mr. Downs agree that a 15-year private placement option best meets the district's needs should the Board elect to move forward with the lease-purchase approach. The $1.5 million lease-purchase option would allow the district to expand improvement options at the athletic complex and be repaid from operating funds.

2022-2023 BUDGET AMENDMENT
The first amendment to the FY23 budget was presented and approved by the Board. Mr. Hoffman and Mr. Downs included several major changes to the budget in response to the evolving economy, our enrollment, and district programs. Additional information on revenues and expenditures can be found in Mr. Downs’ Superintendent Update

SCHOOL SAFETY
Officer Cummings October Board Report can be viewed here.  Officer Cummings and Mr. Sides continue to research the app School Guard that immediately communicates with officers in the area and building personnel in the event of an emergency.  In addition, it would house the district’s safety plan and can be activated by any staff member anywhere in the building. The state is also exploring purchasing an app for all schools to use for the next school year.  When additional information is available from the state, updates will be provided to the board for review.

STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
Our current student information system (Tyler SISK-12) has been purchased by Infinite Campus and will no longer be supported. The district obtained quotes from three replacement systems. The administration recommended the purchase of Infinite Campus, and the board approved the purchase.  Infinite Campus offers all of the modules that the district is currently using with SISK-12 and has additional features that, once implemented, will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the district. Additional information on the transition will be provided once Infinite Campus can provide the district with a timeline of implementation.

POLICY UPDATES
This is the first reading of policy and regulation updates. Policies go into effect after second reading and approval by the Board of Education.
