Supporting The Arts & Arts Councils Everywhere

Volume 4 No. 41| November 11, 2022

Notes from the Editor:

Well! Wasn't this some kind of week? With all the flooding that was happening in Vero Beach, I had no hope of keeping the river out of my house but guess what! That flood repellant I scattered around the fenceline worked! Of course, I still had to prepare for the worst, just in case, so it was a physically and mentally tough few days. (Just kidding about the flood repellant, although I did pile last year's sand bags around the doors.) I've decided that going forward, bottom shelves and drawers will remain empty. No more hurricane hustle for this old girl. The weekend will be dedicated to cleaning up yard debris once again. I can live with that since it's all outside instead of inside, the way it was in 2004.

Feeling bad for those who weren't so lucky but feeling GREAT for those businesses and arts organizations that are back on track already! I'm working on updating the Arts Blast calendar as information trickles in but I suggest checking for updates wherever you're planning to go and on the Arts Blast calendar at willimiller.com.. I can tell you it's definitely a Riverside Theatre weekend, with Live in the Loop, the Comedy Zone Experience, and the final performances of Butterflies are Free. Tomorrow's Playtime had to be canceled, though.

Scroll down for this week's Nicole-abbreviated Arts Blast.

One more note: It's so easy to buy tickets online for those on your gift list, just in case you don't feel like leaving home. Doesn't seem possible, but in only two weeks, we'll be eating Thanksgiving leftovers!

Here's that popular link to the St. John webcams. Yes, it really is that gorgeous.

ARMORY ART CENTER’S EXHIBITIONS HIGHLIGHT WEARABLE ART AND CANCER SURVIVORS

Contemporary art jewelry and reimagined radiotherapy masks celebrate the art of

perspective and perseverance in two recently opened exhibitions, “Verdant Bodies: A Contemporary Art Jewelry Exhibition” and “Radiant Nation: Masks”.

Verdant Bodies” will be on display in the Armory’s Montgomery Hall through Friday, Nov. 18. This exhibition offers insight into how makers in the art jewelry and metalsmithing fields interpret their environments.

Radiant Nation” will be on display in the East Gallery from through Friday, Dec. 16. The show features a collection of reimagined radiotherapy masks transformed by artists into vibrant, powerful forms of expression. This exhibition is inspired by artist and cancer survivor David Charlowe. In 2019, after surviving a bout with cancer, Charlowe asked several artists to repurpose nearly two dozen radiation masks.
