Library Instruction
Library Instruction On Campus, Off Campus, and Online

ETSU faculty members and teaching assistants are encouraged to incorporate research and information literacy skills into their courses. Instruction librarians will work with your students in your classroom on or off campus, in Sherrod Library, or online in your ETSU online or Tennessee eCampus course in D2L.

Faculty may request different types of instruction tailored to class needs. Instruction librarians can develop handouts, research guides, and instructional videos tailored to your course assignments and provide research and reference services for your course in D2L.

Because library instruction is often in high demand at peak periods of the academic year, please make your request at least two weeks in advance of the desired date. After you have scheduled a session, you will be contacted by a library faculty member who will develop a presentation in accordance with your students' research needs.

Featured Resource
PubMed
PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health–both globally and personally.

The PubMed database contains more than 34 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC).

Available to the public online since 1996, PubMed was developed and is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

ETSU Presents Distinguished Faculty Award in Service to Ashley Sergiadis

Sherrod Library congratulates our own Ashley Sergiadis, Digital Scholarship Librarian and Assistant Professor, for receiving 2022's ETSU Distinguished Faculty Award in Service.

Sergiadis has been instrumental in launching two major initiatives that help reduce the cost of textbooks and other course materials: the Open and Affordable (OA) Course Materials Awards Program in collaboration with ETSU’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the Sherrod Library’s E-Textbook Reserves Program.

The Distinguished Faculty Awards in Teaching, Research and Service are the highest honors bestowed upon faculty by ETSU.

Read more about Ashley's accomplishment on the ETSU News webpage.
Faculty Bookplate Reception Held on November 17, 2022

In collaboration with the Office of the Provost, Sherrod Library hosted the second annual Faculty Bookplate Reception to honor recent tenure and promotion recipients.

Faculty who received Tenure or Promotion in the last year had a commemorative bookplate added to the book of their choosing. Honorees were invited to the library to see their selected book on display.

Attendees celebrated these achievements with kind words, assorted refreshments, and a display of books selected by each honoree. Prepared remarks in honor of the faculty were provided by Sherrod Library Dean David Atkins and the Provost Dr. McCorkle.
ETSU's Trailblazer Series Kicked Off With "The Price of Publishing"

Librarians Ashley Sergiadis and Christiana Keinath got this academic year's trailblazer series off to a blazing start with their session, The Price of Publishing.

In discussing the hidden costs of publishing, Sergiadis and Keinath presented a brief history of the Open Access (OA) movement, how to find OA equivalents to traditional journals, and how to distinguish predatory journals from legitimate journals.

To view the session in its entirety, visit here. The Trailblazer series is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and will continue into the new year with monthly workshops and presentation sessions.
