IT'S JULY!
JULY is HERE! Summer Programs and Summer Camp have been running smoothly in our first week. We have loved seeing our kids again! It has been hot, but we are doing our best to keep everyone comfortable and busy! Our Summer Camp program has been so popular that all five weeks are filled in most age groups. There are spots available in our Grades 3-4 group, but they are going fast!
Hollow bathrooms have been opened since May, and are cleaned once daily. Per the First Selectman and the PDDH, all people using the bathroom are asked to go one at a time to observe social distancing, wear a mask, and of course wash your hands! If you, or a member of your household are feeling ill, or have been asked to quarantine, please refrain from using our parks until you are cleared from illness and have done the advised quarantine. Thank you for doing your part to make our parks safe for everyone!
HOLLOW POND RENOVATION PLAN UPDATE
The Park & Recreation Department and P&R Commission have been working on the renovation plan for Hollow Pond for several years now. In 2018 we presented our plan, but various circumstances have prevented us from getting the work done.
The stars finally do seem to be aligning so we wanted to send out an update, so everyone is aware of the planned improvement timeline.
1. CT DEEP permit has been received.
2. Herbicide application to the emergent growth along the shoreline of phragmites and cattails is scheduled for (weather permitting) early August 2021 with a follow up application at the end of August.
3. Hydro-raking to remove the treated emergent growth is planned to start the first week of October, again, weather permitting.
After the invasive species have been removed, the second phase of the project will be to remove the pond metal fencing, put in additional matching fencing around the playground, remove the beach sand, add soil and plant grass.
We plan to make this a usable natural space that people can enjoy for passive recreation. Have a picnic, read a book, play at the water’s edge, etc.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping Woodbury a clean, happy and beautiful place to live and play! If you have questions regarding this newsletter, please feel free to call
Sincerely,
Woodbury Parks & Recreation

Did you know that Martial Arts Training is 10 times better than Team Sports for developing a child’s self-esteem and self-confidence? Here at Soulcraft BJJ Woodbury we teach the skills that will last a lifetime! This 6 week program will teach your child fundamentals of self-defense, team work, improved self-confidence and introduce them to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as popularized by the Gracie Family of Brazil.
We’ve designed our program to teach the core values of Jiu Jitsu as a lifestyle—striving to create a fun and practical approach to not only prepare children to defend themselves so they don’t have to; but as a way to teach respect, self-confidence, teamwork and valuable listening skills they can carry into the classroom and beyond.

The Arts Alliance of Woodbury’s Arts Walk is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8th, along Main Street from St. Paul’s Church to the North Green.
Artists, crafters, musicians, dancers and others will be on hand, offering demonstrations and works for sale, impromptu musical moments and pop-up performances in an informal, socially distanced setting.
The event will be “bookended” by Studio Hill, 507 Main St. South, and The Gallery, 53 Main St. South. Those attending may plan to visit both galleries as they stroll up and down Main Street, stopping to enjoy a variety of exhibits and events along the way.
AAW member Bill Geddes said the Arts Walk is inspired by a similar event he attended in Pittsfield, Mass., where galleries open their doors for the evening, artists exhibit on sidewalks and in storefronts and restaurants offer post-walk drink or dessert specials.
“We’re looking to local residents to come outside, enjoy the evening sunset and see what our arts community has to offer,” said Mr. Geddes. “It should be a wonderful start to a new vitality with many interesting things to see.”
There is no cost to attend the AAW Arts Walk. Subsequent walks are planned for the third Thursday evening of June, July, August and September.
The all-volunteer, nonprofit Arts Alliance of Woodbury is committed to fostering the arts in Woodbury and surrounding towns.
