Celebrating Youth Art Month With A School Mural Project

The national flower of Ukraine, the sunflower, symbolizes peace. The project’s objective was to show solidarity and support for Ukrainians, as well as those in our community with connections to the Ukrainian community. When completed, the large piece of artwork will be displayed in the Arcade.

Spotlight: Lauren Weisenseel '23
Accomplishments: Lauren recently competed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Gymnastics Competition, in the vault and all-around contests. She has been a gymnast for 14 years and trains at Crossroads Elite Gymnastics Academy in Strongsville. During the competition season, Lauren spends between 16 and 20 hours each week training and she was the first gymnast to ever represent Saint Joseph Academy at the state level.

During the competition, which took place in Columbus in February, Lauren earned a score of 9.200 in the all-around contest and was one of 36 gymnasts from around the state to compete. On the vault, she also scored a 9.200 and placed in the top 20.

“It meant a lot to me to compete at such a high level and represent Saint Joseph Academy as the first gymnast in history,” Lauren said. “I truly am grateful for the experience, and I plan to continue training in order to perfect the skills I already have and be back at the state meet for my senior season.”

While she does not plan to compete at the collegiate level, Lauren loves the variety of experiences she’s gained during her gymnastics training. She’s learned to work hard and to be disciplined and has made many friends and teammates outside of school.

Activities: At Saint Joseph Academy, Lauren is a Student Ambassador and is in the Health Science Honors Program. She is also a member of the Free to Smile Club, Glamour Gals and the Ultimate Fan Club. Outside of school, Lauren is a volunteer for Youth Challenge in Westlake, which brings together young people with physical disabilities and teen volunteers who inspire each other through adapted sports, recreation and social growth activities.
