Dear Friends,
Thank you to all who worked so hard to make St Francis Sunday a great success! The pets were well behaved and so were their owners. We had our largest attendance since before the pandemic.
God bless you all!

How will my pledge be used?
Your pledge makes it possible for St. John's Cathedral to create a budget for our staffing, ministries, programs, and outreach for the coming year. In other words, pledging is the primary basis for what we can accomplish as a church. Here's another use that you may not have considered. Pledging is a spiritual discipline. It's one of the vital signs of spiritual life. It provides a tangible way for you to grow in your faith by sharing the resources that God has provided.

Join us for a contemplative walk in the woods
|
|
Join St. John’s Cathedral Green Spirits and Timucuan Parks Foundation for a contemplative walk through the National Park Service’s Theodore Roosevelt Area, one of Jacksonville’s premier “wilderness” parks, on Sunday afternoon, October 17 at 3 pm. afternoon.
Where: Theodore Roosevelt Area, 13165 Mount Pleasant Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32225. There are two driveways at this address. Take the dirt road on the right for about 1,000 feet to the parking area. Meet at the picnic tables/pavilion.
When: Sunday, October 17, 3 – 5 p.m.
Who: All are welcome, however, we need to keep the group to no more than 20 (if we get a huge response, we can look into going in two separate groups)
What: A contemplative walk on a relatively wide natural hiking trail that winds through tall oaks and overlooks vast expanses of salt marsh. The walk will be approximately 1.5 miles (but you are welcome to continue all the way to Spanish Pond for a ~5-mile walk)
What to wear and bring: Wear closed-toed shoes and bring a mask to wear if social distancing is not possible. It is highly recommended that you bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, and a full reusable water bottle.
What we will provide: Timucuan Parks Foundation will also provide additional water and Nature Valley granola bar snacks.

A World of Quilts exhibit throughout October
|
|
Taliaferro Hall at St. John’s cathedral has been transform-ed into A WORLD OF QUILTS, an exhibition of quilts by Jacque Huber running through the end of October.
World of Quilts
The visitor’s eyes will be dazzled by the more than twenty hand-pieced quilts in the exhibition. Surrounded by blazing colors, subdued and subtle designs, traditional and modern patterns, and ingenious quilting, they will be delighted by Jacque’s (a trained engineer and business executive) mastery of an art form that has deep ties to American church-women in 19th and 20th century America but is now available to the wider world of contemporary art.

Assistance needed in the wake of Hurricane Ida
|
On Sunday, August 29, sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the same region. This Category 4 storm brought flooding and damaging winds that caused a loss of water to hundreds of thousands and a loss of electricity to over 1 million people. Episcopal Relief & Development is working closely with the Diocese of Louisiana and other regional partners in what will be a long-term response. Your generous gift will help alleviate suffering for the most vulnerable residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Please visit episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a gift today.

Diocese of Florida Prayer for the Election of Our Bishop
Almighty God, giver of every good gift, we pray that you would look graciously upon the Diocese of Florida, and so guide the minds and hearts of the Nominating Committee as they prayerfully select candidates for the election of the next bishop of this diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries: Guide also the minds and hearts of the candidates who will come before the Nominating Committee, that this process will be a time of discernment and growth in their lives and ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
