THE LIFE OF MOSES – LESSON 12

THE FIRST JUDGMENT OF EGYPT

Moses and Aaron returned to Pharaoh for a second meeting. Exodus 7:1 says that God caused Pharaoh to view Moses like as a god. Nevertheless, Pharaoh still resisted letting the Hebrew people go.

The first miracle was performed by God right in front of Pharaoh’s eyes as Aaron threw down his rod which then became a serpent.

Pharaoh called in his wisemen, sorcerers, and magicians. With their enchantments they cast down rods also and they turned into multiple serpents. Aaron’s rod (which had become a serpent) swallowed up all the other serpents and rods. The miracle did not impress the king enough to get him to change his mind.

Although Exodus 7:11 indicates numerous men were called in, Hebrew tradition 1500 years later names just two of them in II Timothy 3:8, namely Jannes and Jambres, perhaps the chief spokesmen of Pharaoh’s “wisemen.”

The next morning, Moses and Aaron met Pharaoh and a host of his servants by the river, presumably the Nile, as it was Egypt’s “life blood.” They depended upon it for drinking water, crop irrigation, and fish. Aaron smote the river with his rod, and it turned to blood. It was undrinkable and all the fish died. Pharaoh’s magicians duplicated the miracle as Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened. This continued for seven consecution days. It was the first of ten judgments (or plagues) against Pharaoh.

Nothing was changing Pharaoh’s heart and mind because God had hardened it. Why would God do that? It was to prove that of all Egypt’s many gods, none were truly God like Jehovah of Israel. Each of the judgments were specifically targeting certain Egyptian gods to prove their inability to help the Egyptians.

Perhaps later I will relate which gods were defamed by each of the judgments. That will be for another day. In II Corinthians 10:5 it says, “Casting down [their] vain imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God [Jehovah].” God cast down the Egyptians’ vain imaginations by showing himself superior.

WHY I DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN

I know this will be controversial. Years ago, I met a lady that was a practicing witch in her younger years. She wrote a book about it. She shared in our church about Halloween.

She shared that Halloween is the Devils night. In September and October when she was a practicing witch, she shared about kidnapping children, teenagers, and adults and then sacrificed them.  Yes, killed them on Halloween. She shared that Halloween was the witches’ day to do the worst atrocities that you can imagine.  I thank God she saw the light, repented, and received salvation and deliverance through the blood of Jesus Christ.

As a young person and a young adult, I enjoyed Halloween. I often dressed up in costumes, including dressing like a witch. I thought it was fun scaring children. I did it in ignorance, but it wasn't really innocent. After I got my heart right with God and learned truths, I repented of my actions and stopped celebrating Satan’s unholy holiday. I realized it was a trap. It only would cause me to turn from God.

 I knew that many of my friends and family would think I was crazy but doing right with God was more important than what they thought. The world brings magic in for entertainment and says it is just for fun, but God says have nothing to do with it. Schools promote everything to do with this sort of thing. From dungeons and dragons to Harry Potter to the Sorcerer’s Apprentice.   

God has a lot to say about witchcraft and witches. In Exodus 22:18 it says, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” That’s a very serious statement.  In I Samuel 15: 23 it says, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.”  Knowing that God hates anything that has to do with witches and witchcraft I know there are those that will rebel against what he says and celebrate Halloween anyway. By having heard the truth and then doing it anyway, it shows the spirit controlling them which is rebellion – and that spirit is as the sin of witchcraft. 

Halloween is not an innocent festival. It is a gate that opens our young people to the dark side. You can have fun in the fall without doing it on Satan’s day. Christians should know better! Sadly, our churches don't teach these truths. Please teach your kids the truth and give them alternatives. Keep them safe from Satan’s traps. I personally know a young man that has tried suicide several times. He was into playing dungeons and dragons and Harry Potter. Halloween and these games are all filled with witchcraft. Stay away from them!

If my words help one person to change then I will thank the Lord, I shared this. It is worth the criticism I will get for making this stand.

Well, if you’ll just stand up to this tough and tight SQUEEZE you’ve been experiencing…You can know that God will pull you right on THROUGH it all in Jesus Name. Yes, today is the day for you be determined that you will receive God’s Word and His way…And then you can move on with your life in His peace, His victory and His joy. Just be sure to hold on tight…For God is about to pull you through with all of His Glory and His Might. So trust God and be at rest in Him and as you do…You will see that you can experience the true joy and the peace that only God can bring.

A Prayer for Thursday

In Your Presence I find my strength. And peace once again fills my heart. I stand amazed at Your forgiving love. You know me best and I am lost in Your peace. Keep walking with me Lord because I am lost without You. Forgive me for thinking I could do this on my own! But now my heart has hope once again and I will wait on You! Amen

We’ll enjoy the color. The color you make
