Hingham Congregational Church,
United Church of Christ
Annual Finance Meeting Sunday
January 23, 2022
10 a.m.
Welcoming Covenant
In the name of God and Jesus Christ, the Hingham Congregational Church welcomes all who seek to know and worship God, and invites everyone to join in our mission through participation and leadership of the congregation.
As a community of faith, we take seriously the biblical call to love God and our neighbors as ourselves, and recognize that, although we are many members, we are one.
❖ We celebrate the uniqueness of everyone.
❖ We rejoice in our diversity of views and understandings of our shared faith.
❖ We affirm relationships based on love, commitment, and mutual respect.
❖ As is stated in our by-laws, we strive for righteousness, justice and peace.
It is with this spirit and the love of God that we openly welcome all persons, inclusive of every race, ethnicity, class, age, gender, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, and inclusive of any others, to journey with us as we move forward with the work of this church in the world.

Gratitude
Music: "For the Beauty of the Earth" Hymn & "Rodeo"

For all we sometimes take for granted:
the hours of the day, and the sun and the moon and the food we eat… we bow in Gratitude.

Opening Prayer (unison)
God of Light and Love, we open our hearts and minds to you this morning. Set us free to roll with the rhythms of your Spirit and to dance to the tune of the gospel. Enliven us, deepen us, and help us to keep moving toward the new realm that Jesus tough and lived...
(silence)
*Lord’s Prayer
Our Father* who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
*Please feel free to pray as you wish. We respect tradition — and we welcome images of the Divine that are diverse and inclusive.

In Christ There Is No East or West | |
|
In Christ there is no East or West, in Christ no South or North;
But one community of love throughout the whole wide earth.
In Christ shall true hearts everywhere their high communion find;
God’s service is the golden chord close binding humankind.
In Christ is neither Jew nor Greek and neither slave nor free;
For men and women live in God, and all are kin to me.
In Christ now meet both East and West, in Christ meet South and North;
One joyous true community throughout the whole wide earth.

Reverence to Nature
The Four Seasons, extract
| |
|
Realizing the magnitude of God through his creation,
we bow in reverence and gratitude to Nature’s commitment.
Every year after long Winter months, Nature brings us Spring,
trees looking bear in Winter will grow again, leaves, flowers and fruits.
Everyday while the whole Universe is spinning in intricate cycles,
we can wake up with the rising of the sun.
And every second while our own nature performs a myriad of tasks inside our bodies
like digesting a meal, we can relax and enjoy being alive.

Musical Offeringa Snow White and the Evil Queen, let it be a dance!
Bob MacWilliams & Hymn
| |
Snow-White and the Evil Queen embark on a new journey of self-fascination and
conflict between generations.
The Queen is fascinated by her image in the mirror and
Snow White is fascinated by her image on social media,
together they learn to put down their weapons of mass-distraction and
connect in real life.

One Body with Many Members
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot were to say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body’, that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear were to say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body’, that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many members, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you’, nor again the head to the feet, ‘I have no need of you.’ On the contrary, the members of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those members of the body that we think less honourable we clothe with greater honour, and our less respectable members are treated with greater respect; whereas our more respectable members do not need this. But God has so arranged the body, giving the greater honour to the inferior member, that there may be no dissension within the body, but the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honoured, all rejoice together with it.
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers; then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But strive for the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

Shadow and substance, wonder and mystery,
spellbinding spinner of atoms and earth; Soul of the cosmos,
person and energy, source of our being: we sing of your worth.
We are your image, formed in community;
sisters and brothers of Adam and Eve. You gave us color,
custom and history; teach us to honor what others receive.
Naming the nameless Spirit of unity,
scanning the heavens for signs of your care; God of ages,
give us humility; guide us to mystical union in prayer.

Jr. Choir in January - Pause in Live Singing
It looks like the Jr. Choir will need to postpone our 2022 rehearsal startup until sometime in the (hopefully near) future. With HCC worship going on-line for the coming weeks, we will once again have an opportunity to sing along and record at home with the idea that we will create an audio/visual presentation of a song or two that would become part of our church family’s worship experience. Those of you already on the Jr. Choir e-mail list, be on the lookout for an e-mail that includes a song and directions for singing and recording at home. If you are not on the list but are interested in joining in our upcoming songs, please e-mail Mr. B. at jeeko@comcast.net. to be included
