Issue VI
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Fisher Families,

School is in full swing and we are settling into our routines and schedules. Lots of exciting things will be happening soon. Be sure to keep up with the Fisher Flyer to stay informed.

Our first joint School Advisory Committee and Home and School Club meeting is planned for Wednesday, September, 15 at 5:30pm in the Fisher Multi-Purpose Room. More information about these important committees can be found on our website:

Thank you for your continued support of Fisher and all its facets!

Take care and stay well.

RESTROOM VANDALISM CONCERNS
Unfortunately, our student restrooms at Fisher have been repeatedly vandalized over the last few weeks. As a result, we have closed most of our restrooms to be able to better supervise the current situation. We plan to maintain these closures through the end of this week while we work with our students to understand the importance of respecting their school property and the work of our custodians to maintain clean and safe restrooms. Students do have regular access to restrooms throughout the day.
THANK YOU FROM ONE COMMUNITY LG!

Kudos to our very own 8th grader, Pravin Balasingam, who earned Honorable Mention in NPR’s Student Podcast Challenge. Last year, Mrs. Leonard, Pravin’s 7th grade science teacher, shared that NPR was hosting a contest and Pravin rose to the occasion. The contest was judged between March and April and there were over 2600 entries! The NPR crew is very impressed with Pravin and his Podcast on autism and so are we! Congratulations, Pravin!
VIRTUAL MATH NIGHT VOLUNTEERS
Math Night has gone virtual. Please join us September 30th from 5:30-6:45pm and/or 6:45-8:00pm online to play games with Blossom Hill's Elementary students. You can sign up for 1 hour or 2. You will be in a chat room with 5-8 students playing various games. Mathnasium volunteers and Blossom Hill representatives will be present in rooms as well.

There will be a short training session on September 29th (details will be forthcoming). Questions please email francineshore@comcast.net. (Please include email and phone number for easy contact.) Thanks for your help.

FISHER CODING CLUB
Starting September 27th Fisher will have a parent volunteer-run coding club on Mondays from 8:00am to 9:00am (Rooms R7 and R8). Class is self-guided, using an online teaching platform and the volunteers will be there to help answer questions or troubleshoot code. Students get to choose between Python, Javascript, or Java. We recommend Java only for those already familiar with one of the other languages.

Seats are first come first served. Sign up using this URL
Students will also be asked to sign a code of conduct. You may view a copy of it here

Volunteer Teachers
Hari Bhaskaran (6th grade parent)
Jing Huang (8th grade parent)
Jingmin Zhou (6th grade parent)
Qing Wang (7th grade parent)

This club is highly coveted by our students and families; as such, it is not homework time or free time for our students. We are accepting 20, 6th graders and 20, 7th/8th graders for a total of 40 kids. The Fisher Administration cannot thank these four parents enough for their time and talent.
The Town is looking to fill one permanent crossing guard position and also wants to hire a few people to be substitute guards to cover illness and planned vacancies of regular crossing guards.
FALL MUSIC CONCERTS
The Fisher Music Department is having their first set of concerts on Friday, October 1st and we are thrilled this year to be able to play in-person together. We will have the concert in the quad area (band and orchestra) and the MPR (choir). Parents, please bring your masks, lawn chairs or feel free to stand while you listen to this concert. Below is the timing of the evening:

4pm – Trojan Band and Trojan Strings
5pm - Intermediate Band, Trojan Choir, and Concert Band
6pm - Advanced Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Advanced Choir

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
ONE COMMUNITY LG
Did you know that One Community LG, through the LGEF, funds our Noontime Sports Coordinators and Dance Teacher? During each year approximately 400 Fisher students participate in noon sports; a great way for students to have fun in a structured and engaging environment, led by Fisher PE staff.  LGEF also funds the Fisher Middle School Dance teacher, Wendy Meyer. Students in the 6th grade wheel will do a dance segment focusing on the elements of ballet, hip-hop and jazz style dancing. In 7 & 8th grade, students can select the dance elective, and audition for Open Dance or Advanced Dance.  To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit onecommunitylg.org.
