Updated CoVid-19 Protocols
Dear Parents:

Every day we see your children eagerly walking through the school gates and joyfully go through their day of learning and camaraderie is a winner. We are immensely grateful for your trust in our care and your diligent cooperation in navigating the no-longer-so-new-normal.

We have updated our protocols for returning to school decision-making when your child or a sibling is ill. After we determined the MLWS Return-to-School Protocols (sent on 9/25), the New York State Department of Health established a new algorythm, which we are now following.

Changes to the MLWS Return-to-School Protocols:

1) the pathway for returning to school WITHOUT an alternate diagnosis if symptoms resolve AND your child has a negative CoVid test. Most children will often not have an alternate diagnosis when they have symptoms. Instead of having to stay home for 10 days after the symptoms began, a negative CoVid test will now be sufficient for returning to school according to the NYS DOH Pre-K to Gr 12 CoVid-19 Toolkit.

2) nasal congestion/runny nose is now included in the CoVid-19 symptoms. We are updating our SchoolCues Screening Tool accordingly.

... and to help support your child's immune system to fight off those pesky germs:

  • Dress your children with warm layers of comfortable clothing that can easily be peeled off or added on. Since the doors and windows of the classrooms and offices are kept wide open for optimal air ventilation, it can feel like the rooms are out of doors! Your child will need a hat and coat on cold and damp autumn days, even when inside the school building.
  • The calories that keep them warm from the inside are quickly burned off when children learn and play out of doors. Please provide them with a hearty and nutritious snack and lunch. A warm lunch in a thermos does wonders for their sense of well being.
  • Let's also mention rest! Learning and playing out of doors for most of the school day will take much energy and stamina, that are best renewed with plenty of quality sleep time.
  • It has now been recommended to us that children should increase their use of hand sanitizer to at least once per hour.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend enjoying the beauty of the autumn season.
