Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
The 2022 theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18 - 25) was developed by the Middle East Council of Churches based in Beirut, Lebanon, and it refers to Matthew 2:2 – We saw the star in the east, and we came to worship him. Find a daily Scripture and prayer guide for this week.
Sunday of the Word of God & the Path to Unity
This Sunday, January 23, is Sunday of the Word of God. In instituting this celebration, which falls during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Pope Francis in 2019 wrote, "This is more than a temporal coincidence: the celebration of the Sunday of the Word of God has ecumenical value, since the Scriptures point out, for those who listen, the path to authentic and firm unity."

Social Justice Ministries
"A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer."
Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae
Join the March for Life
St. Matthew's Respect Life Ministry invites parishioners to take part in this year's March for Life on Friday, January 21, the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children (recognized on this date in the Archdiocese of Washington, and on January 22 outside the Archdiocese.) Join the St. Matthew's group that will gather at 12Noon in the Cathedral and attend together.
January Rosary for Life
Join the Respect Life Ministry on Saturday, January 22, as we pray our monthly Rosary for Life and litanies to Our Lady and Saint Joseph. We will pray for upholding the dignity of all human life, from conception through natural death.

On Consensus-building within the Parish Council
L.J. Milone continues his instruction on the work of the parish council, sharing the following:
Besides prayer, the other central activity of the pastoral council is the rhythm of discernment through assessing, planning, and coming to consensus. Consensus means coming to agreement about how the Spirit is calling the parish to a deeper experience of God. It emerges from discussion grounded in discernment and prayer.
