Upcoming Nighttime Closures of Interstate 89 at Exit 17 in Colchester: November 17 through November 22, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

COLCHESTER, VT: Interstate 89 (I-89) northbound and southbound at Exit 17 will be closed to traffic for several nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to facilitate the installation of structural steel girders for the new U.S. Route 2 (U.S. 2) bridge over I-89. This work is scheduled to take place between Sunday, November 17, at 7 p.m. and Friday, November 22, at 6 a.m. During these nighttime closures, traffic will be maintained via detour routes. Temporary traffic control signage and portable changeable message boards will be installed along the detour routes to guide travelers. The signed detour routes are described and shown in the graphic below. 

Southbound traffic on I-89 will be directed to exit the interstate at Exit 17, turn left onto U.S. 2., and immediately re-enter I-89 using the southbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange. 

Northbound traffic on I-89 will be detoured to exit the interstate at Exit 16 in Colchester, travel approximately 6.3 miles on U.S. 2/U.S. 7 to Exit 17, and re-enter I-89 using the northbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange.



Please note that all dates are subject to change based on weather conditions and other field variables. Supplemental Traffic Alerts will be issued in the coming weeks.

PROJECT LOCATION: The segment of U.S. 2, starting just east of Jasper Mine Road and extending just under a half mile east to its intersection with U.S. 7 at Chimney Corners. The segment of U.S. 7, starting just south of the Shell Gas Station/Simon’s Chimney Corner Store and extending just over a half mile north to its intersection with Wiley Road. The Exit 17 interstate ramps and the portion of I-89 bounded by them.
