NOAA forecasters recently updated the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook and slightly decreased the likelihood of an above-normal season by 5% but by no means should we become less vigilant. Being a Native Floridian and having experienced many hurricane seasons (not divulging how many :o), being prepared and having a plan in place before a storm is key.
“Since Hurricane Irma in 2017, we have had an influx of residents. We’ve had about 100,000 people that have moved to the area. So now more than ever, we’re encouraging people to have a good plan in place,” said Lee County Director of Public Safety Sandra Tapfumaneyi.
So, top item on your "Preparedness List of To-Do's" is knowing whether or not you are in an Evacuation Zone. If you are, establish a safe place you can go if you are evacuated that is outside of an evacuation zone and is other than a shelter. If you are unsure, click on the link below.
According to Tapfumaneyi, Lee County has 20 facilities, with approximately 30,000 spaces that can be utilized as shelters. Identifying and establishing an alternative is very important.

"We're just getting into the peak months of August through September for hurricane development, and we anticipate that more storms are on the way," said NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, PH.D.
Don't be scared, be prepared! Once you have your plan in place do not hesitate to execute it when and if the time arises.
