Happy New Year! Foundation 2021 Milestone Achievements
While many headlines reflect 2021 as being another “tough year” (and yes it certainly was in many areas), your Foundation nonetheless achieved some positive and exciting milestones in 2021. The most notable achievement was the approval by the Secretary of the Air Force to allow the construction of a public entry into the Museum complex that relieves civilian visitors from processing through the normal JBSA security gates. Once constructed, this portal will allow for a far greater audience to access and appreciate the history, heroes, and contributions of Army Medicine. Additionally the Foundation’s foray into the world of social media to get out our message has been successful and continues to expand the number of people interested in learning about our mission. Make sure you are signed on to get the latest updates via Instagram, Linked In, and Facebook. Gifts in Memoriam
As we reflect on friends and colleagues with whom we served over the years, are you ever inspired to do something in their honor? If so, consider honoring a mentor or colleague with a gift In Honor Of, or In Memory Of, that person or a group/unit. For example, Colonel (Ret) William H. Heydorn, MC, recently chose to honor his friend and colleague, Colonel (Ret) Robert Lee Treasure, MC, with a memorial donation to the Foundation of $500. These gifts not only honor the receiver and their contributions to Army Medicine, but also can go a long way towards helping the Foundation achieve its goals. So next time a friend has a birthday, retirement, promotion or other momentous milestone, please consider a gift in their name. Donations may be made in-person at the Foundation Office located in the Museum, by credit card online at the Foundation’s Gift Shop webpage, or by mail using the printable mail donation form available on the Foundation webpage.
Foundation Cancels Plans In-person Board meeting for January
January 28, 2022 was the date set for the first in-person Board meeting for the Foundation since 2020. However, the Foundation Executive Committee decided that given the recently rising positivity rates of COVID in the San Antonio area, and the uncertainty of the efficacy of the vaccinations even when boosted, that we continue without an in person Board meeting. The Foundation Executive Committee will continue to conduct routine business for the Board as it has throughout the pandemic. In the event there is extraordinary business, the EXCOM will canvas the Board for input before making a decision. The Foundation Executive Committee is currently working a number of topics to include:

• An update for the 2022 Fund Raising campaign to include a plan to begin participation in the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).

• A project to digitize our brick directory to reflect all bricks purchased and their location throughout the Courtyard for a more customer-friendly system.

• Finally, as a result of a prospective donor’s interest in our naming policy, the Foundation Executive Committee is reviewing and updating our Sponsorship Policy.
