Faith in Action: July's Ministry Highlights in Central America

Greetings Ministry Partners,

July was a great month of ministry in Central America. Several classes have resumed after the summer break, and other classes have started. We are so thankful for all our ministry partners in Central America, whom God is using to make this a ministry of impact—impacting pastors, leaders, churches, and communities all for the Glory of Christ.

Thank YOU for your prayers for this work. It is God’s work, and we are incredibly blessed that He was willing to invite us to join Him. We are also blessed to have all of you as our partners. There is power in prayer, and we are experiencing the power of your prayers.

We appreciate your prayers and support.

Guatemala

Pastor Miguel Barrios was in our first graduating class this past June in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. In July, he started his very first class of five (5) students at Hope Baptist Church, where he pastors. We are thankful for his enthusiasm to train leaders and to reach people for Christ in his community.

Staff Update:

Otto Echeveria is teaching classes in and around Coatepeque and talking with new contacts in other areas of the country. Hamid Gutiérrez is teaching classes in and around Quetzaltenango. He helped Miguel start the class last month at Hope Baptist Church. He is teaching a class in La Maquina at Emaus Church. He continues to encourage the teachers and visit the classes in his area. Charlotte Hernandez Tello, our office manager, is doing a great job keeping the inventory stocked and supplying classes with books. She is also keeping our financial spreadsheets up to date.

Belize

The classes in Belize continue this summer as well. We are especially excited about the class in South Belize taught by Pastor Joel Cohuoj (photo above, top). He is a student in the class in Belize City that recently completed Book #3. Joel is also teaching a class in Red Bank. Justin Atchison (photo above, bottom left), is the teacher from Belize City and is overseeing Joel’s class (photo above, bottom right).

Justin’s family also spent several days in July in Red Bank conducting a VBS for the children in that area. Around 200 children participated in the VBS. Our guys in Belize are truly being used by The Lord in a great way.

Honduras

Our class in El Progresso, Honduras, has completed Book #2 and is anticipating Book #3 this fall. Seven (7) new students joined the class this summer, so we are getting them caught up by taking them through Book #1 over the next two months. Otto will teach Book #3 to the class this fall.

This class has a hunger to get through the 10 courses so they can all start teaching. This is going to be an important program for the churches of Honduras as they attempt to plant many churches in the next 10 years.

Prayer Requests & Praises

  • I will be leaving for Guatemala on August 10 for a medical mission from August 10 to 15. Please pray for the medical mission and safe travels. While in Guatemala, we will have a staff retreat on August 16, and I will be preaching twice on August 18. Thank you for your prayers.

  • Please pray for new classes to start in Guatemala.

  • Pray that the Lord will raise up a local leader in Belize to oversee the ministry.

  • Pray for Pastor Joel as he plants five churches and manages a part-time job to support his family.

  • Pray for the class in Belize City. They want to plant a new church in the city soon, and one of them will have to rise up to become the pastor.
